buzzfrog Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 these must be new, i have never seen them before, are they good.. they 7.3.1 looks sexy, i need a new worm reel EDIT: sorry my mind go ahead of me, I know this is in the wrong thread, sorry Quote
Bass Junkie Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Nay. I've owned one, and hated it. The retrieve is just not as smooth or free as other brands. For some reason they have not corrected this issue for a number of years. I also experienced issues with the gears being rough. I do not know if this was because the reel had not broken in, or what. I returned the reels due to the tight retrieve and its inferior casting ability compared to a Revo. I now no longer use any Quantum reels. Abu Garcia Revos are superior by far, and with the 3rd generation coming in STX-HS can be had for a very reasonable price. Between these two reels there is no comparison. Also, Quantum introduced the Reax at ICAST 2009~ Quote
buzzfrog Posted September 9, 2012 Author Posted September 9, 2012 alright thanks, I guess i am a quantium fan, i love the smoke, energy and the Tour pts. i may just get an exo.. Super User roadwarrior Posted September 9, 2012 Super User Posted September 9, 2012 Sorry you had to wait... On the other hand, you asked and received a specific response from someone who has owned the reel. If you have already decided to buy the reel, why ask? If you know anyone that works retail at BPS, you can ask them about their returns. Or better yet, talk with any profession reel repairman outside the BPS network. Basically, schematics and parts are not available. "Returns" are just the cost of doing business. You are not the only Quantum fan, I'm sure some other guys will have something to add. If you buy the reel, write a review when it's new and another six months from now. Quote
buzzfrog Posted September 9, 2012 Author Posted September 9, 2012 I didnt decide to get it, i was really planning on a quatium exo, but i never hear of the Relax, I didnt know it was4 years old though.. thats why i pretty much come here to ask before i do anything. the only reel i can put money were my mouth is. is my PQ and my quantium smoke. SInce i last checked this forum,, i Did talk to the local that cleans most reels around here for people who do not. I do value his opnion, though he doesnt fish as much as he used to, thus yall fish more, so yall know how it feels on and off the water. He said he has never cleaned or messed with any Relax.. did down the kinetics and the Curado, G,?? told me to get an E. not that i was looking in the shimano direction at moment... I am starting to think Shimano is a cult... Quote
The Rooster Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Shimano is a cult. But it's a fun cult to be in. They make some fantastic reels. Recently, I took another look at the G series Curado at a tackle shop. I still think the E series was better, but the G is not a bad reel at all. It's going to be judged and compared to the E series though, so for many it's going to come up short. For me, it comes up short because I'm one who has an E to compare it to, but I think I could learn to like it better if I had it on a rod and spent some real time using it. By itself, uncompared to the prior models, it's a good reel. I don't have anything specifically against Quantum but I haven't been impressed by their reels in a long time. Just from comfort in my hands alone, they haven't impressed me at all. I used to fish them but I got into others and found that they were just a lot better. BPS branded reels, Abu Garcia, Shimano, and especially the new Lew's reels, all of those would be first considerations over Quantum for me. Quote
