EvanT123 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Does anyone else catch a lot of fish when their absent minded? Seems like every time I reach for a smoke, my cell or just fart around I catch a nice one. Maybe that's something telling me to slow down. Quote
NEjitterbugger Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Yeah, happened to me today but in the opposite way...i was "absent minded" not expecting to catch a fish in a certain spot. Then i thought that "hey usually when i think this i get a fish"...i didnt end up getting a fish during that moment haha but i definatley know what your saying. Quote

Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted September 9, 2012 Super User Posted September 9, 2012 happened on my 4th of 5th cast ever with a top water frog. it was still early and i was half asleep. then i realized i couldn't see my frog any more and i as im thinking "whats going on here?", this fat old bass just takes off with it. he ended up throwing the hook just as i got a look at him. kind of frustrating. Super User deep Posted September 10, 2012 Super User Posted September 10, 2012 Not a lot, but the first "big" bass I caught ate the bait when I was daydreaming. I've conditioned my mind to wander about and daydream while using certain techniques... 1 Quote

I've conditioned my mind to wander about and daydream while using certain techniques... Thats kind of how I am fishing topwater sometimes. Daydreaming until I hear a splash, and coming back to reality gives me that 1, 2, 3 that I'm "Supposed" to wait for. Usually works out. Crankbaits sometimes as well, although I don't find myself doing much of that this year unless I hit St Clair. Quote
buzzfrog Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 on weightless, if it is say, 8 feet, i watch it sink, it seem i look thew it and bam, miss my line jumping, i gut hooked 3 fish this summer, but with that how to pic, that was floating around here, i saved them all. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted September 10, 2012 Super User Posted September 10, 2012 When I'm not paying attention is usually when I end up missing a fish. +1 +2 always seems to work that way especially on slow days then a light bulb goes off and I realize I wasn't going slow enough which in turn makes the fishing better and becomes a fast paced day if that makes any sense lol. That's it! Little details that the OP is missing while not paying attention to what's important. Quote

wademaster1 Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 yes, i agree with you, if im fishing and my phone rings and i answer it or anything like that then right then i'll get a hit; almost every time Quote
shootermcbob Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 i have caught a couple fish while clearing out a backlash...cleaned up the birdsnest and viola...a fish was on! Maybe also another clue to slow down. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted September 10, 2012 Super User Posted September 10, 2012 I sometimes don't focus like I should. This almost always results in a missed fish or opportunity. I was talking to a friend on my cell a while back, when I "'hooked" a very nice fish. My partner saw the fish and grabbed the net. Just before he netted it, it opened its mouth and swam off. He gave me a lot of grief, saying it was a monster. I don't know how big it was, but if I had been paying attention my chances to land it would have been much higher. I think most of us let our minds wander from time to time while fishing. I fish for fun and to enjoy time on the water so an occasional missed fish is not too big a deal. When money is on the line, or I'm fishing in water capable of producing trophy fish I tend to pay closer attention to those details J Franco mentioned. Watch KVD fish and you will see what focus looks like. I believe his success is in his ability to stay focused on the details. Quote
Jesse Ours Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Oh yes, when the mind wanders fish take advantage of it. Then I get all emotional and have to wait until my eyes dry up to start fishing again. Quote
flipin4bass Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 I've missed some good fish because I was "Sleeping at the Reel." Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted September 11, 2012 Super User Posted September 11, 2012 Not really absent minded, but I have missed some while digging out a backlash. Quote
