Super User rockchalk06 Posted September 11, 2012 Author Super User Posted September 11, 2012 I wanted an sx but I'm done with mag only brake systems. Amen to that. I finally got sick of my Silver Max and issues with it. Traded it in back to Bass Pro. It was over 30 days so I got a merchandise card. Got me some fluoro and 40 dollars worth of tubes. Quote
TNBassin' Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Mine took 2 days to process. They have to debit two additional payments just as authorized before they ship it. It got debited today so hopefully it goes out tomorrow. Got it shipped to the store so hopefully they call me asap when it gets in. Next week is my bday and I'm going on a 3 day fishing/camping trip and I'd like to take it with me. Quote

Thats a hellova bday present! I had alot of fun today with mine. I ended up turning all but 2 breaks off and the spool control knob tightend just enough to stop the side to side play of the spool. Kinda sad, but I have been having more fun with it than my two STX's lol Quote
TNBassin' Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Tracking says its on its way to my store so should definitely have it before my trip. You should make a youtube review on the reel for us rock. Quote

Kinda sad, but I have been having more fun with it than my two STX's lol This will be my first centrifugal brake system. Is it pretty easy to set up? The main reason I wanted the S, was because my back lashes come from me whipping my casts. Will the brakes on the S eliminate that? I sure hope so, as my Revo SX is driving me insane. Quote

After I figured it out, it was. The owners manual is the old one. I have two of the pitch brakes clicked on and the remaining pitch and spring loaded breaks all off. I have my spool control knob set to fall about 12" a second. I have to thumb the spool just a tad and I get no issues. I think its going to help on backlashes on the whipping. I would suggest trying not to whip it so much as let the rod load and give her hell. The people have spoken lol. I think we should talk Gene into buying on and doing a video. I don't have a video camera with tripod and I don't want to look like some of those fools on you tube using their phones. Quote
jj'sbassinforfun Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Don't forget the new gen3 sx has a totally different brake system. We haven't had an issue with the gen 1 or 2 SX. So, I guess we are lucky? Quote
TNBassin' Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 The gen 3 sx is the same magtrax brake system that the max family of reels has. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted September 13, 2012 Super User Posted September 13, 2012 A snap cast with a centrifugal reel is easier than with a mag reel, but it is still possible to backlash. Be smooth. I will help a lot. Quote
TNBassin' Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 I can make snap casts with my black max, but my revo sx gets it's panties in a wad and wants to overrun a little too much. I'm hoping the S will be more forgiving and give me time to refine my casts more. 1 Quote

I use my STX as its an extra I have or I would have purchased and SX for my pitching rod. Btw I can stress this enough you are gonna love that new S brother. If you don't I promise to let you kick me in the junk! Quote
TNBassin' Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 LMAO! I'm sure I will love it. My Veritas is just sitting in the corner mocking me, but my tracking says that my reel is on their "retail truck", so hopefully I don't have much longer to wait. Does it have a clicker in the drag and spool tension knob?? Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted September 14, 2012 Author Super User Posted September 14, 2012 Yes it does. Both do. Quote
TNBassin' Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Got my S. Just now picked it up from BPS. I must say, you were right. This reel screams quality, and is ridiculously smooth. Is it me, or is Abu using better spool bearings in the Gen 3s? The spool spun forever compared to my REVO SX. I can't wait to take this sucker out for a day. I exchanged my Veritas with the cracked guide. I checked my new one over about 10 times to make sure it didn't have the same issue. Only I get it home, and see the second guide from the bottom looks like it's cracked lol. I can't win. I'm just gonna try to get some epoxy and put a dab to seal it off and be done with it. I love my Revo SX and Vendetta combo, but the S and the Veritas just feel so much better. Good call Rock. Quote

Now throw a 1/2 oz weight on it and hit the neighbors truck that lives 3 houses down!!!!! We need a review lol Quote
Silas Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Just talked to my local dealer today. Said he would have a few in a couple of weeks and was going to sell them for $109. I asked about the Veritas rods, but not very popular rod around this area of South Louisiana. I'm interested to see how everyone likes them before I commit. I've looked at the Daiwa Tierra in comparison. I'll compare the reviews on both of those. Quote

TNBassin' Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 I have a Veritas micro guide rod, but I have yet to fish with it. It's incredibly light, and I really like the exposed reel seat but I didn't at first. Back to the REVO S, I can't wait until mid October so I can pick up a carbon fiber handle for mine. Quote

I have 4 total and am planning on 2 more after Christmas. The Micro Guide 7' rod is only 4.2 oz. I ripped a 2.6 pound bass out of the crud today with a made for TV hook set and felt just as comfortable doing the same with it as my 7'11 lighting rod lol Quote
TNBassin' Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 I can see a Gen 3 STX in my future sitting atop a Villain rod. Quote
