AR21angler Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Okay I've settled on what reel I want for my 843c but should I get the 50 or 100 size I know one hold less smaller line so Im thinking I want the 100 but is there a big diffrence in size in bothe these reels? Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted September 8, 2012 Super User Posted September 8, 2012 I guess it depends on what you are planning to use the rod for. For the techniques that most folks would use a 3-power rod for - I would think you want the 100. The size is still manageable unless you have very small hands and it has better spool capacity for heavier weight lines. I have the Conquest 50 - it is a delight to palm (for a round reel) but is really more a "finesse" type of reel with a line capacity of only 80yds of 10 pound line. I have 8lb on it right now and have run 6. However, if you wanted to run 12 or 14lb test on that 50-size reel, I think you would be really capacity-limited, even for bass fishing... "Baluga" fishes the Conquest 100 (in the salt no less!) and may come along with his advice. Quote
AR21angler Posted September 8, 2012 Author Posted September 8, 2012 cool im slowly building my arsenol and have a decent size bonus coming from work next week i planned on getting the reel and rod, but this dang bait monkey disease has hit me hard and now i want both lol Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted September 8, 2012 Super User Posted September 8, 2012 Here you go. The 50 is on the bottom & the 100 on the top. 50 is 6.2:1 ratio & the 100 is 5.8:1. 50 weighs 205 g & the 100 weighs 225 g. 50 holds 80y of 10lb & the 100 holds 135y of 10lb . Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted September 8, 2012 Super User Posted September 8, 2012 Hmmmm - I think I need a similar matched set..... Quote

baluga Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 With 843C I would go with Conquest 100. I pair mine with 783C GLX and another one with 6'6" H Phenix UMBX. For the size 50XT I pair it with 6'3 H Cumara reaction for topwater. Conquest 100 on MBR 783 GLX conquest 100 on Phenix UMBX 6'6H Calcutta 50XT on Cumara Reaction 63H Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted September 9, 2012 Super User Posted September 9, 2012 That's a lotta conquest love. Quote
AR21angler Posted September 10, 2012 Author Posted September 10, 2012 Do u guys spray anything on your cork to keep it looking new that on that glx looks very clean Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted September 10, 2012 Super User Posted September 10, 2012 U-40 cork seal. Apply it to a new rod or clean a dirty cork then apply after drying. Cabela's sells it and so rod builder retailers. Quote
baluga Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 What DH said ! You can use Magic Eraser to clean the cork handle before applying U-40 if the cork has stain on it. U-40 is a one time application unless you sand it lightly and re-apply it. Quote
