pjmags Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 I have recently seen a lot of hype regarding using jigs for fall season bass fishing. I've tried using a jig once before but had no success. I just have a few questions about these popular lures: 1. Best Jig? 2. Best color? 3. Best trailer? 4. Best techniques for jigs? Thanks for the help! Quote
AirbusAngler Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Best jig? depends what your doing with it. Perosnally I like heavy heads for pitchin and flippin heavy cover(rightous pitching jig by gary klein) Best color? my own that I make Best trailer? Rage Tail has everything you could ask for in a trailer. Its all I use Best technique? The way you personalize any of the standard styles(flippin, pitchin, swimmin, hopping, dragging etc) jigs are very versatile Good luck! Quote
Arv Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 All of these depend on where you are fishing. Best Jig? - Brand is going to be different from person to person so I won't even bother with that so I will say this instead: - Football head jig - best fished around rocks - Arkie head jig - best around wood and for skipping - Alien head jig - best around weeds - Swim jigs - obviously for swimming There are other heads out there (rocker, ball, etc.) but these are the most common and what I fish. Best color? - Personally I like black/blue. But keep it simple - black, brown, watermelon Best Trailer? - This also depends. Most people will use craw trailers but you will find a very wide variety. Put something back there with a lot of action to get reaction strikes Best technique? - Again, depends. I like to hop them through weeds with a hop, hop, sink, pause and twitch for 5 seconds, repeat pattern. You can drag them across the bottom. Swim jigs fish similar to a spinnerbait or even a crankbait, make it erratic. ALSO, check out the how to videos here. Gene has several videos all about jigs. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/#0 Hope that helps a little 1 Quote
Super User deep Posted September 8, 2012 Super User Posted September 8, 2012 Jigs aren't just for cold water. It's my most productive bait, for numbers and for some decent ones too. This is the best article on jigs that I've ever found: Kudos to SoFla for keeping it simple. Quote
