There are two basic types that I use. Hollow bodies.

Soft bodies.

I use hollow bodies in very think slop or when i want a slower presentation. I use soft bodies for a faster presentation (covering more water). The soft bodies can be worked under the water or burned on top. They both have there place. I tend to use natural colors for both. Good luck. It is very addicting!!!

If your going to use frogs the first time start with Spro's or River 2 Sea they are hollow bodies that are very soft.

you want baits that easily expose the hooks when setting it on a fish frog fishing in general has a larger percentage of misses so you want every advantage.

Also when picking colors remember its the bellies that fish will see primarily

I love the Rage Tail Toads for sporatic vegetation with pockets or lily pads.

For matted vegetation, you can't go wrong with Spro's lineup. I slightly bend the frog hooks "up" for better hits.

I use 65# braid for both applications. Make sure you feel the weight of the bass before you set the hook.

rage frogs, ribbits and horny toads are all user friendly cause you can rig em, toss em, and just reel em in to get bit, whereas the spro frog or any hollow body requires a little concentration cause you're trying to mimmick the natural movement of a frog.  those little hops and skips with suddle pauses are tricky to get down pat. my second favorite technique :)

I am giving the Z-man elastec hard leg frogz a try this year.  Their plastic is stretchy and durable, also the  hooks go through it much easier than typical plastics.  This should help them last a lot longer and the hook to penetrate much easier.  I just bought a pack to try out.  Unfortunately it will be quite some time before a frog bite can be had.

I like the hollow bodied with skirts whenever I am fishing over heavier cover, like a pile of pads. But if I am fishing more open water and just trying to cover water around the edges of cover, or cane I will use a yum buzz frog or a gambler buzz toad.
