milepost43 Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 We made our first trip to OKEE last April when WL was falling rapidly. Had a great trip but just wondered what the bassers lucky enough to be able to fish OKEE regularly do when WL jumps 2' almost overnight...thanks.... Quote
JayD Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 See my post below call Big O is on fire. Fishing has been great since the storm better then bofore the water came up. Quote
chobee Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 We fished last Saturday caught 30 only 1 decent fish that was 5lbs most were about 1.5 lbs.We found 1 area that had most of the fish the other areas we fished we would pick up 1 or 2 .The fish scatter when the lake rises this fast but when you find them you can catch a bunch like JayD did. We fished the southend from Kramer to Rita and a little bit of the East wall Quote
JayD Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 We caught all of our fish in pelican bay. The fish where pretty concentrated once we found them all of them in about 300yrds of grass. Quote
megabasist Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Bumping this for my SECOND post. Hello everyone! Current lake level is 15.77 feet. They are have been pumping it down every day and it keeps climbing. Isaac was the most unbelievable drenching I have ever seen. Simply incredible. Quote
Super User Bassn Blvd Posted October 7, 2012 Super User Posted October 7, 2012 The flood gates into the Palm Beach canal have been open for over 3 weeks straight now. Quote
gar-tracker Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Fishing can be insane or really hard, they are starting to bunch up but theres so much water its hard to find them. Personally I think we need a nice cold snap to bring them back, there some beautiful spawning grounds waiting. I think now there just kind of cruising. The Bucks are pee peeing like crazy. Quote
salmicropterus Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 The Bucks are pee peeing like crazy. LOL, maybe thats why the Lake keeps going up. These and this post are spot on. The areas where the fish are concentrated are so small it's kind of scary. You really have to comb through an area to find the sweet spots. They can be as small as 10-15 ft. On Friday, I found a 10X10 hole in the kissimee grass which yielded 8 keepers in about 10 minutes. Not the greatest fish but keepers. Within 500 yds diameter of that place...nada. Best advice would be that if you find a fish, put the pole down and fish it hard. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted October 7, 2012 Super User Posted October 7, 2012 It was too low, now its too high. Had a tourney there Mon thru Wed, and they were soo spread out, they were hard to find. Pelican bay and the Schoal are going to be the better spots. Quote
sunkboat on big o Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 gar-tracker I heard it took 32lb's to win christian trail tourny, you? Quote
bocabasser Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 i fished from sun up til 5 on saturday. we ran from clewiston to the monkey box and found fish everywhere we went. the problem we found was that most of the fish were small. we managed a couple of 4 pounders, but nothing compared to the winning sacks that have been coming in. 18 pounds is all we could muster on saturday. i don't think im gonna fish the ghosts and goblins tourny. i will still be on the lake, but i can't justify dropping $120 when im not on anything big. Quote
shallow thinker Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 I was out on Saturday too. Fished those same areas plus offshore. I ended up with one good fish and a sack around 14 lbs. It is a very different lake compared to past years. There is so much more marsh area to fish. I was running a boat trail on the shoal and passed a guy in a pontoon boat... I didn't expect to see him as the trail is 10' wide and he had a 12' beam! We'll still fish Ghost & Goblins and see what happens. Quote
sunkboat on big o Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Fished sun from sun up till 3pm started on west wall worked up to north shore and places in between with same results. Was 3 tourneys going on and heard of a double digit but also heard alot of 12 to 15lb sacks. Big sacks past 2 weekends have been there but very few. Couple people will hit em at the right time and area but everyone else is just fishing. Think alot of people will be there sat and if they find them will enter tourney sunday. Quote
SkeeterDave Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 I sorta fished Okee "unconventionally" this past weekend. Rather than fishing grass/hydrilla etc, concentrated on all the dam areas in the rim canal. 14.8 Saturday and 10.5 Sunday (after missing the first couple hours with engine trouble). Lost what looked like a couple 4 pounders when they spit them out on a jump. Can't wait to get back there again a look into more grassy/hydrilla areas............ Quote
gar-tracker Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 gar-tracker I heard it took 32lb's to win christian trail tourny, you? Yup, I know the dude, he has a Big O that looks just like mine only with non skid. We were about a pound from cashing a check. There was the 32,a 24, 19, then the weights dropped like a rock. My fish didn't hold up, I didn't think they would it was two weeks ago. Some older guy in a Ranger comes by us while we're on a point that we were working pretty hard, most boats would go by us and keep moving the way one should. He says to me Man I just cant catch anything, what are you guys doing to catch those fish on, I respond to him well we're fishing a tournament but tell him what we're doing, he responds thanks a lot Ill get of you're way, I even point out some secondary fish to him that I knew we wouldn't be using. He then changes his bait gets up swing around and moves right into the point whey we were on the other side of it, casts in a and catches an 8 lber. I was frigging steaming, I try and be nice and this was my payment, we would keep coming around and hitting the same head I know we would have caught that fish. Quote
piscicidal Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 No good deed goes unpunished, I guess... Robert and I will be running around out there tomorrow. I'll give a report late. Quote
