hooah212002 Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Got out this morning with BR member pappajoe222 (thanks to Bassresource) for a Labor Day morning of fishing on Delavan Lake in SE Wisconsin. The early bite was about all we had and the fog seemed to help, if not just to give us a bit more time before the pleasure boaters came out, which they did the minute the fog lifted. I got these two LMB and pappajoe got a got a good sized Pike but he didn't feel it picture worthy. I guess that happens once you're used to catching a lot of fish lol. The first is my current PB and the (don't laugh) the biggest fish I've ever caught, bass or otherwise.. We didn't get a weight, but it was ~18 inches. Fought like a champ as well. Both were caught on a pumpkin green (ish) 1/2oz (I think) jig of unknown make with some crazy looking trailer of the same color, part of that lot I posted about getting from my neighbor. Come to think of it regarding my thread "confidence in worm selection", these fish were eating stuff that was EXACTLY the same color as the thick weeds they were in. This, folks, is what fishing is made of. Fishing with a purpose and catching what you are fishing for. That might seem second nature to a lot of you, but for someone who always has had a passion for fishing, but has never been too successful and had a habit of never committing to a certain "style" that was suited to the environment, this has been a monumental summer. Super User Dwight Hottle Posted September 3, 2012 Super User Posted September 3, 2012 It's always a learning curve. Nice fish. Quote
hooah212002 Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 Indeed it is, thanks. It definitely helps to have a partner who really knows his stuff. It's one thing to get off the water then come here to critique or to game plan beforehand, but to have a knowledgeable fishing partner is infinitely more helpful. Especially if he has a boat lol. papajoe222 Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Congrats on your great day and new PB... And I bet pappajoe has several more tricks up his sleeve too The kid outfished me. 'The teacher has become the student' Next time, he operates the boat and I'm gonna sit in back and cherry pick! Just busting chops. It's always great to get out and share your passion with someone, especially someone that puts up with my rambling about the good old days. Quote
hooah212002 Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 I suppose I did forget to mention that you got them primed to bite up front and i cleaned up lol. Quote

Congrats on your fish. I spend many weekends on Lake Delavan. It's either Delavan or Lake Geneva. Both are phenominal fisheries, that easily push 6lbers regularly. For you guys that don't live up north a 5-6 lb largemouth is big in our waters. Also Lake Delavan has an 18" minimun size with only 1 fish daily limit. I guess they are try to preserve this fishery. It's near impossible to fish ANY lake around here without a boat. Quote

I sent you a PM Powers lake has DIRT cheap boat rental and isn't much farther than Geneva. 24 hour row boat rental for $20. Just drop your cash in the box and take it any time, day or night. No need for anyone on duty. Integrity and all that. I'm looking into getting my a trolling motor so I can fish there since I've heard good things about it, Quote

I'm looking into getting my a trolling motor so I can fish there since I've heard good things about it, Yes Powers, Brown, Little Muskego, Como, Pewaukee, Oakauchee are all fabulous lakes and they all produce nice fish. I just had a tourney on Brown. Fishing is tough there with a 16" min, but on the tourney I got big bass. It was 3.65lbs and took 3rd place with only two fish. Tough day on the lake. Lot of excellent lakes to fish in S.E Wisconsin. Quote
