I know this will open a can of worms, but I'm looking for opinions from actual owners. I'm looking to upgrade my rods for next season and want to know which to go with. I'm also referring to their comparably priced rods.

You are asking too broad of a question and the only answer you will get are biased answers. This is like making a shimano vs diawa thread. Ask a more specific question regarding the specific models you are looking at. Only then will you get a solid answer. I can help you if you are refering to the glx or nrx vs xtreme as i own/owned both. Tell us what you are upgrading from and what the rods are being used for.

I fish both. St. Croix is the "better value", but I think G. Loomis is the better rod.

Both companies produce fine equipment. You might want to consider the Pinnacle

rods, too. They have gotten EXCELLENT reviews!

I've owned both and was far more impressed with the St.Croixs. They offer great rods from their lower end rods that most anyone can afford to their top of the line rods. You really can't go wrong with either and if I got a great deal on a Loomis I would have no problem adding it to the collection to go along with all my St.Croix rods. Right now with so many of St.Croixs last year models of their higher end rods being in their online bargain room I don't think you'll find a better deal on a high end rod from either company than what they're offering right now.

I have both. Sometimes you will find one has a better blank for a particular application than the other. I find st croix has better fit & finish on the high end overall. Recently loomis quality control has suffered greatly.

I have owned only the GLX and IMX series from Loomis, I have fished the GL2 and GL3, I would prefer the Bionic Blade or Extreme from Bass Pro over a GL2 or 3. I sold the GLX after the second one delaminated several years ago, I would love to find someones who needs a 6' Light Fast IMX spinning rod and it would be gone, too heavy. I would replace it with a XX. XXXXX. :thumbsup1:

I own around 20 St. Croix rods, Legend Ultra's, Elite's, and Tournament's, several Avids, Fly, spin and casting. I own a couple Premier's also, they are left over from what I furnished client's from my Great Lakes Charter Servicel. I won't part with any of them.

If you want the best rods on the planet, get a Legend Elite or Extreme, hands down the finest rods available, the Avids are great rods, lightweight with good sensitivity, but most of all they are some of the most durable rods made. I think I prefer the St. Croix rods, as long as there built in Park Falls!! :nike:

this is probably the best answer you will find. Being most of my rods are xtreme/ltb there is an nrx i recently acquired that wouldnt be traded for any of st croixs line. Both are fine rods an each has their strengths/weaknesses. Once you go that high up on rod series it all comes down to personaal preference rather than which is better.

Well, lets compare the Legend Elite, Tournament, and Xtreme to NRX, GLX, and whatever else Loomis has thats comparable. I currently fish all Quantum Tour Edition PT Signature Series rods. They have been great rods. I just want to see what all the fuss is about St Croix or Loomis. The rods will be technique specific.

Go to the Bargain room and choose a Legend Extreme for the discipline you prefer. At the prices they are selling them for you can sell em on ebay and make money if your not thrilled, or recoupe you money here. But I will warn you, if you do this be prepared to replace every rod you own, they are that good, and addicting!

Those are some great prices. Very tempting. I think I'm gonna pick one up first, try it out, and then see whether or not I like it enough to switch all my rods.

A poll between Shimano-Loomis & St Croix.....

The obvious quality builder is St. Croix... :Victory:

I've fished both and have built both. Loomis and St. Croix both make a nice, quality rod, but you have to purchase from the top of their line, IMX and above.Gl2, Gl3, Mojo, Rage, etc, are money pits in my opinion. For a few more dollars you could have a much finer rod.

well the elite/xtreme are the same blank. These would be comparitive to the glx. The nrx is supposedly a more responsive/sensitive blank than anything on the market but the quality isnt anywhere near st.croix. lots of breakage issues with the first version of the nrx and the reel seats are a problem. With the one nrx i own i haven't had any of these issues. I wish the finish and the quality of build was that of an xtreme/elite but it is a super sensitive rod...but some are the xtremes. The legend tournament would be personally above the gl3/imx but below the glx. But you could argue they are compariable. As i said before these are top tier rods so performace wont be an issue it will just be personal preference. Either one uou pick just put your reel(s) on it and find out. The xtremes are 100$ or so off now as they are bringing in their god awful new skin grip.(i love cork) hut they said they willstill be making cork xtremes so who knows. Quality cork is expensive. St. Croixs customer service/warranty is 100xs that of loomis so thats something to look at. Eithet one uou pick you will see a drastic improvement from you current rod. If you give us techniques you want to be using it would be easier to let you know which rod of whichbrand would suit you.

Sorry for the spelling, typing on a tablet sucks.

The rods you fish aren't even close to being in the same ballpark as St. Croix's top line of rod or the NRX, GLX.

Thanks. It appears that St.Croix will be my next rod. I will need a deep cranking rod, lipless/med-shallow cranking rod, spinnerbait rod, pitching rod, topwater rod, finesse rod, drop shot/finesse spinning rod, worm rod. Thats pretty much it.

I've never fished a top of the line St.Croix or Loomis so i wouldnt know. I'm sure they are much better given the huge difference in price. The TE PT's have been very good to me.

Lipless/shallow/med crank-xtreme 72mm or 72mhm or legend tournament 7'mhm

spinnerbait-legend tournament 71 mhf or 71 mhxf if you prefer xfast tips. St croixs xfast is very fast.

topwater -legend tournament 68mxf or 68mhxf

Finesse casting/spinning-69mlxf in both spinning and casting.the epinning is my favorite xtreme.

Jig/worm i switched to nrx for this for an amazing deal. Not a lot avaliable in lengths/actions for this in xtremes but the 7'mhf is great.there are plenty in legend tournaments.

Pitching- not a lot of options over 7' in older xtremes unless you go 711mhmf which is a good rod that i used in 7'6 but i sold it. Looking at adobyns extreme for this.

spinnerbait-legend tournament 71 mhf or 71 mhxf if you prefer xfast tips. St croixs xfast is very fast. Avid mh/f

topwater -legend tournament 68mxf or 68mhxf Avid m/f

Finesse casting/spinning-69mlxf in both spinning and casting.the epinning is my favorite xtreme. Elite/Extreme ml/f spinning no clue on casting

For moving baits, the absolute most sensitive rod is not that important. Make sure it fits the lure/line rating you wish to throw. For bottom contact rods, get the best you can afford!

I don't think you took me this way, but I didn't mean to sound snooty, haha. If you ever get a chance to fish the NRX or high end Croix then take the chance. They are very nice rods, but not necesarry to catch fish.
