Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted February 12, 2010 Super User Posted February 12, 2010 rain gear Quote
wisconsin heat Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 dude, it doesnt rain in wisconsin, it SNOWS in wisconsin, i say go cheap with the musky gear, since you dont have any good muskie lakes near you, you probably wont use it alot, that way you can get both faster Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 12, 2010 Super User Posted February 12, 2010 Just because you wouldn't use it isnt a reason not to get a musky rod. I live in Missouri, there aren't any muskies anywhere near here and I have two musky rods. I don't know why - blame the bait monkey. You probably ought to have a rainsuit though. If you're bank fishing and tromping through brush, weeds, cattails, whatever, I wouldn't get a real expensive one. Don't get one that you're worried about tearing up. I know that Frog Togs are allergic to thorns and lake side bushes. You could probably get by with a poncho. But, it's not my money, you should get what you want Quote
JDK. Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 a good rain suit is worth its weight in gold!!! Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted February 12, 2010 Super User Posted February 12, 2010 BTW Frogg Toggs are awesome. Fairly cheap, and they keep you dry. I realize theres a lot of bad reviews on them, but I've never had an issue with mine. Quote
bigfruits Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 dude get modern warfare II instead. Quote
RAMBLER Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Take some advice from someone who grew up in Northern Wisconsin 68 years ago. That cold rain is miserable. Get a rubber rainsuit big enough to wear sweat shirts under it. You need a musky rod, too. There are some really big musky and northen pike up there. Fishing from the shore, you can't get out to where you might get snagged so you need something big to get out of the lilypads and weeds and blowdowns. If you need to, you can use a musky rod for bluegill and crappie, but you can't us a "crappie" outfit for northern pike or musky. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted February 13, 2010 Super User Posted February 13, 2010 a good rain suit is worth its weight in gold!!! +1 I fished for many years using cheap rain gear. I didn't know what I was missing. Good rain gear is an absolute must in my humble opinion. Buy it large enough to wear a couple of layers underneath and you will use it all four seasons. I'm not saying you don't need a musky set-up, I would just buy rain gear first. Cabelas sells a variety of good rain gear, including Guide Wear which will probaby last you forever. I've had mine for years. 8-) Quote
kikstand454 Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 *shrug* i too love my frogg toggs. Quote
Stringjam Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Just because you wouldn't use it isnt a reason not to get a musky rod. I live in Missouri, there aren't any muskies anywhere near here and I have two musky rods. Come to Pomme de Terre sometime. There are some very nice muskies in Missouri. Quote

I bet it rains in wiscawcin... Oh, that's cute NA! ;D If you already have fishing gear of sorts, get a decent rain suit. As said earlier, make sure it's oversized a little. You know how it is up here in Wiscawcin, rain one minute and snow hittin' ya in the adze the next. Get the musky rig later. Quote
