jparisi48 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Hey guys, I am taking a trip to bassproshops soon and have some cash to spend. Right now I only fish a weedy 40 acre pond next to where i live, it has no bottom structure just mud or sand, and is a max depth of 20ft. The only thing I use right now is a T-rigged worm fished in and along the weedline in 3-10 ft of water. I am open to suggestions on what else I should try. Also I am taking a trip up to Maine with a few people and this place is supposed to be awesome for largemouth and smallmouth but I currently only have worms really. I have plenty of rods and reels and will be fishing from a bass boat in maine. Down here where I live i just use a kayak. Any suggestions would be great, Im only looking to spend 1-200$ its hard not to blow all your money there lol Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted September 1, 2012 Super User Posted September 1, 2012 Kinami Palm Trees - AKA - Fat Ika. The color I use/like is watermelon/chartreuse skirt but whatever you like. http://www.basspro.c.../product/53865/ Hooks for them well Ive been trying a few in 4/0 & 5/0 size EWG. Currently 4/0 TROKAR EWG WORM. Others Gamakatsu EWG Offset, some mention Owner Twistlock. I tried Owner Wide Gap Plus but was missing too many bites. These tear quick so if they have MEND-IT get some of that to fix them. I have a little butane iron that works well it melts the tears back together. Im on 18 bass with one right now. I have had them get tossed on the first catch though. BUT THEY CATCH FISH Quote
dday07 Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 What kind of bait is in the pond? shad?sunfish?crawdads? Quote

West Coast Bass Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 grab some frogs and some heavy braid. spool up and you'll be having a blast on topwater, especially in the kayak. one of my favorite baits is the damiki d pop 70, great walking/twitching/popping topwater bait that just flat out kills it. depending on how weedy your pond is, it may be trouble but you can get away with fishing it in open areas. i agree with the ikas, have caught some of my best fish on ikas. confidence bait for sure. also get some nail weights, gamakatsu finesse 2/0 hooks with weedkeeper, and some senkos. the fall is deadly and wary fish will usually commit to it.
