GoneFishi'n Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 Hey guys just got back from "Frogging" and let me tell you I had some fun. Me and my friend went out in this 8 foot plastic boat and just had some fun. He didnt catch any but I was teaching him out to fish a frog. He had some hit but didnt set the hook right. I missed 3, well i hooked them and when they jumped out of the water they shook it out. Caught 2. One was only only 1LB and then the other I don't know. I weighed it and it said 2 pounds which I know is so wrong. Do you guys think you can help me out with the weight? I measured it though, 28/8. I saw him kinda jump just a little at this stump to catch a dragonfly and I whispered to my friend "It's a monster". I casted past the stump and started to reel it in and stoped it a little bit when I saw her swimming towards it and man that fish jumped completley out of the water. So all in all it was just a really nice day to get out on the water. Have a nice guys. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted September 1, 2012 Super User Posted September 1, 2012 Nice Bass ~ I don't understand what 28/8 means ? If you have actual length and girth measurements you can use the fish weight calculator on this site. A-Jay https://www.bassresource.com/bassfishing/fishcalculator.html Quote
GoneFishi'n Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 28 length and 8 girth. I'm pretty sure my buddy measured the lenght wrong though. Probably 25 maybe 26. Sorry for not putting it right. Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted September 1, 2012 Super User Posted September 1, 2012 yea man definitly need to get you a new scale if it said that fish in your picture was 2 pounds, its tail looks about 2 pounds lol. I would say that is at least 6 1/2 I would say between 6 1/2 to 8. Quote
Super User MCS Posted September 1, 2012 Super User Posted September 1, 2012 Helluva fish dude. Nice Quote
GoneFishi'n Posted September 2, 2012 Author Posted September 2, 2012 Put up a big fight to. Used a spro frog bigfoot green with red flakes. Tore that frog up haha. Yeah I need to get an electronic scale. Quote
North Ga Hillbilly Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 somewhere around 6-7 pounds would be my guess. Its skinny for its size... BUT there is no way its 8", give your buddy a measuring lesson. That being said, great fish man, there are some nice ponds in the area, and it looks like you found a really good one. NGaHB Quote
GoneFishi'n Posted September 2, 2012 Author Posted September 2, 2012 Yeah it's this lake that almost no one fishes in, well except for the fishing bridge. This girls head was huge compared to it's body. Can't wait to catch her pre spawn. First 10 pounder here I come haha. Well in like 2 years. Quote

You mean 8" height not girth..... right? did you measure all the way around the fish? That would be girth. Quote
Basswhippa Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Between 8 and 9 is my guess due to it being slim at the time you caught her.. Nice hawg! Quote
Surveyor Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 I have a chart that gives the weight of a healthy bass based on length. It only goes up to 25.5" however. Avg weight for a bass 25" should be 9.3 lbs. This time of year and with the bass being in not good condition one 28" may be even less than this. I caught one earlier this month that was 24.5" and weighed 7lbs 12oz. Quote

With a head and body length like that she could easy go 10 on a fat day man in my opinion man, no need to wait two years man. NGaHB Quote
Bassego Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Nice fish i'd like to see it fat, congrats! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 2, 2012 Global Moderator Posted September 2, 2012 Yeah that thing has more than 8" girth around it's tail The girth is all the way around the fish, usually measured just back from the pectoral (side) fins. I did the weight calculator on here and at 28 inches length I did a extremely skinny girth at 15 inches and came up with 11.5lbs. Whether that fish is 28 inches long I'm not real sure but I'm sure that it's in the 25-26 inch range which at 26 inches and the same 15 inch girth would still put that fish just shy of 10lbs. Either way I'm pretty sure you beat your PB if it's 6-7 pounds like your avatar says and it's a heck of a fish. Go get you a decent digital scale for 20-30 dollars so if she comes around again you can get a better weight than what I'm guessing the cheap spring scales you used gave you Quote
GoneFishi'n Posted September 2, 2012 Author Posted September 2, 2012 Oh I didnt know girth was around it lol. Yeah it's 8 height wise haha. So you would say it's between 8 and 9 pounds? Quote
SGT Rico Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 That fish is all of 7 lbs. Awesome catch man!! Quote
