I would think a shorter rod would be preferable due to cover along the creek. In that case the 6'3" M-F should fit the bill nicely. It is rated for 1/8 to 3/4 oz. lures.

EDIT: I think you will like these rods a lot. I have 2 of the ET Smallmouth casting rods, and recently received a River Runner spinning rod for throwing light lures at panfish. (Hoping to hit a couple! :) ) These are some pretty nice looking rods.

I got the 6'3 medium rod, picked it up off amazon for $90. I love the rod, its my most used. I do alot of wading and usually travel light, just this rod matched with a stradic ci4 2500 and a backpack.

I tell ya what, I really like the Fenwick Elite Smallmouths! Light, sensitive, awesome looks and a great value! I don't have the 6'3" medium spinning...yet, but that will be my next buy for sure.

I have the 6'9" MXF and that rod is the amazing. Great backbone but still light enough to make the average stream smallie fun. It's not a typical medium though and a bit lighter in my opinion. Perfect for river soft plastics and light t-rigs. I also have the 6'3" MMF casting which I love for cranks and jerk baits. Perfect stream rod for that.

I've felt the 6'3" MF spinning at Cabela's and it felt really good. Light weight, not too whippy but not too strong as well. I'll use it as my all purpose rod for canoe fishing with light jigs, topwater, maybe a crank, pretty much whatever is working that day.

Hooligan, how do you like that rod and how's the power on hooksets? It feels a bit lighter than a typical medium in the store, which is what im looking for. Does that sound about right?

I love the rod. Works perfect for what i use it for, topwater and cranks. Pretty much all i do is throw 3/8oz sammies and 1/2oz banana boats with 15lb braid. Also is so light with a ci4 on it.

Any of the rods in the series will handle big smallies, even the 6'9" ML, and I'll join the crowd as I know the water you fish and the 6'3" is perfect because it'll let you cast in tighter areas and will be a lot easier to wade with but all the rods in the series are light so no matter what you get there won't be a weight issue.
