pflueger president xt. Aluminum body, reliable, smooth as butter for 80 bucks. And it actually looks good on the rod as well. I don't like my gear looking like it has leporosy! That what I was using on my mojo until I upgraded to a LTB with a Pflueger patriarch.

Take a look at the Okuma Trio 30. I have had this reel for awhile now, and it's amazingly smooth and has an awesome drag system and is incredibly light weight. I can't say enough about it. Amazon has them for around 50 bucks. It's probably one of the most underrated spinning reels out.

Hey guys, i was just wondering what was a good spinning reel for my 6'8" mojo bass. I'm gonna be using it for wacky rigs. Any Suggestions??

I have an abu garcia orra sx40 for sale right now :eyebrows: spooled with 20lb braid

Now is a good time of year-with new products coming out-to find a good deal in the different flea markets both on this site and others. I recently saw a shimano saros 2500 going for 80.00 bucks...That would be my suggestion.

Why buy a used reel for $ 80? When you can get two, or three new pfluegers for around $100.

I would be happier with the Saros for $100.00 if I could buy the Pflueger for $80.00. I have two and they will take a lot of abuse and still be as smooth as new.

Hell, I will sell you my president xt for 45 bucks shipped. Dont use it and it is in great shape. Spooled with 30 lb. suffix 832 performance braid.

The best spinning reel in the Price range right now IMO is the Daiwa Exceler High Speed spinning reel, on sale at TW right now for only $100. Spare spool also included.

I would jump on that in a heart beat if I had the funds.

Edit: Actually, they only have the 4000 lft, and thats just too big for what you intended. I would search ebay for the 2500.

There are two excellent reels under 100 I can suggest:

Daiwa Exceler

Shimano Sahara

Pflueger's are getting highmarks and I concur. I use 3 supremes ($99) in freshwater and an arbor and medalist for saltwater. My Floogs are the smoothest reels of all of my spinners, daiwa, stradics, soron stx., Penns, Quantums. Only the floogs have never seen the need for service of any kind. Are they the best, no.......but for freshwater use and under a $100, any Pflueger can't be beat, even a trion. They are the Timex of the reel industry, they take a lickin and keep on tickin.

Then what do you feel makes a reel "THE BEST"? You stated (and I agree 100%) Floogs are the (smoothest, never need service of any kind, takes a lickin and keeps on tickin). What would it take to be the best, or can there be no best?

President $60

President XT $80 has some upgrades like hybrid aluminum body, carbon drag, extra spool.

The Supreme is great as well, very light reel.

If you like Shimano, the Symetre is on sale for like $100.

I'm still searching for that answer......lol, I don't believe there is a best, just preferences. Some of the fish I catch the spool gets very hot because of the fish I'm catching, the drags keep performing at a high level, like a stradic or soron stx, which are both really good, for some fish those are my preferences. For a $100 or less, the Pfluegers do perform very well, imo fish less than 10# don't really test your gear. For larger fish I do have more confidence in other brands

If you can find a wood knob president at walmart it comes with an extra spool, the newer one doesnt if thats a concern. Some people prefer the older knob, which I had, the newer feels great to me (rubber knob)

For an entry level Shimano, the Symetre can be had brand new and considerably below 100 bucks less than 80 to be more exact, and is as good as any $100.00 reel mentioned. http://www.ebay.com/...=item53edf607cc

The Symetre is a real sleaper, and I have tested them for years. it is what I use to furnish my charter customers. It will really test the equipment when they are tested by customers who don't have a dime in them and could care less what shape there left in after a days use. you don't make money fixxing reels that are abused, and believe me the Symetre will take a POUNDING and keep REBOUNDING!! in over 20 years of owning a Lake Erie Charter Service, they proved indestructible, and extremely reliable.

As snookalot said, the Stradic is way more rel than needed but they are what I use, and would recomend to anyone looking for the best!! yes a Stella is better but no way can be justified at over $500.00 more, the question was Under 100 bucks anyway, no way you can beat a Symetre for less than $80.00 over any reel close to that,

Now that's a strong endorsement, proven in what amounts to "commercial abuse!"

I happen to have the Symetre 500 on a light rig used for white bass and stocker trout.

I doubt that this reel will ever need to be replaced for this application.
