fisin green Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Ditto also blade design makes a difference if your burning one just under the surface. Quote
bassin is addicting Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 i use 3/8oz but i'm guessing i use lighter tackle than the other responses. i only use spinning reels and use a 7ft med rod. i don't have the finances to buy specific combo for each type of fishing so i try to go with a general use set up for everything. Super User Paul Roberts Posted February 10, 2010 Super User Posted February 10, 2010 I liked Glenn's video too. This topic came up recently. Here 'tis: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1264776718 Quote
Super User CWB Posted February 10, 2010 Super User Posted February 10, 2010 3/8 oz for most situations, 1/2 oz for burning or a little deeper and 1 oz for slow rolling or otherwise fishing deep. Occasionally 1/4 oz for very shallow medium retrieves over weeds. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted February 10, 2010 Super User Posted February 10, 2010 3/8 oz for most situations, 1/2 oz for burning or a little deeper and 1 oz for slow rolling or otherwise fishing deep. Occasionally 1/4 oz for very shallow medium retrieves over weeds. Pretty much sums it up the easy way. Blade size plays a big part though.Things can get as complicated as you want them to with spinnerbaits. In other words it's very hard to run a 3/8 with large blades very deep. Same as running a 3/4 shallow that has small blades. Blades create lift and slow the bait down with the water resistance.Fish with what your comfortable with first. After you catch a few fish you can tweak your presentation to suit a wider variety of conditions, structure, cover, depth. Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted February 10, 2010 Super User Posted February 10, 2010 1/2 oz. 90% of the time. Thats me too. I find it to be very versitile. I can run it deep and shallow and I can play with the blade sizes a lot on it. Quote
A-Rob Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 1/2oz tracks the best for me. Sometimes I go down to a 3/8 oz for a smaller profile for smallmouths. But it sometimes rolls to one side or pulls out of the water too much Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 11, 2010 Super User Posted February 11, 2010 1/2 oz 70% of the time, 3/8 oz 15% of the time, & 1/4 oz 15% of the time 1/2 oz spinner baits have larger blades which have more flash & vibration I slow roll a spinner bait more than just reeling it under the surface and the added weight keeps the bait on the bottom easier. Super User Jig Man Posted February 11, 2010 Super User Posted February 11, 2010 I make my tandems in 3/8 oz. varying the size and type of blades because I want them in the upper part of the water column. I make my single spins in 1/2 oz so I can get them down near the bottom. Quote
river-rat Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Depends on the time of the year. From mid-winter to early pre-spawn I use 5/8 oz. and 3/4 oz. most of the time. The remainder of the year, I use 7/16 and/or 1/2 oz. Quote
basser89 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 3/8oz is my starting point in most cases I face. I go up or down from there. My collection ranges from 1/8oz up to 3/4oz so it's not that difficult for me to make a switch when needed. Quote
