I love to fish for saugeye and it is pretty big in Ohio where I am from.

Do you think the popularity will ever catch up with walleye

Is there any distinctive differences from the two species, other than appearance? I was under the impression that the fish were pretty identical. I've caught plenty of walleye, but never a Saugeye/Sauger. I think a good majority of recreational fishermen probably do not even know the difference between them.

For the million saugeye they stock, I'd be willing to bet they put five times as many walleye fry in the waters to that number. Walleye are such popular game fish and table fare. So I'd have to say NO, as far as the subject goes.

Another thing working against the saugeye is they don't get as big.
