I'm planning on fishing the BFL Mississippi division next year as a coangler. I've fished some local open tourneys and club tourneys in the past and really enjoyed it. Any of you guys fished BFL? Good experience? Advice?

I have fished the BFL's before, and will be again next year after my hiatus. You will have both good and bad experiences, but I believe good will outweigh the bad. I would suggest if you like the first tournament commit to them all with the making the regional your goal. BFL's are a nice entry level price to the competitive fishing world.

I fished 3 of the Illini BFL events this year and they were all good experiences but I have heard some experiences will be good while others won't be so good. I learned alot from each of the boaters I fished with as they shared tips and even lures at times on the water. If you have never loaded a boat off or onto a trailer its an experience as well as driving a vehicle and parking one with a trailer and boat was something very new to me. I would suggest you find someone to go in with you as a co-angler if you plan to go that route to share the room and gas expenses as the bfl meetings are the night before the event and this will cut your cost and expenses.

I actually own a boat and am out on the water a few days a week in it. It's only 15' foot w/55 and pretty old so won't be using it. While I do plan to purchase a new boat next summer I really just want to gain some experience and maybe learn from those more knowledgeable than myself before fishing as a boater so I'm thinking of going a couple of years as a co-angler. I live on Ross Barnett Reservoir and they always have at least one sometimes 2 BFL events on it every year. The launch they use in only 20 minutes from my house so have begun spending a lot of time learning that part of the lake. Some of the others aren't too far of a drive. One of my old fishing buddies from the local tourney scene is also considering this so we may travel together some.
