WdyCrankbait Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Hey everyone, I am considering acquiring a Powell Endurance 755 for cranking duties. I wanted to check and see if anyone has, or used one and can give me an impromptu review. I would also greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance, Wdy Quote
Megastink Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 I have one. I can cast a DD22 or 6XD 60 yards (12# Flouro in a Lews Tournament MG). Great deep cranking rod. Soft tip, loads beautifly, very lightweight, sensitive for a hybrid, plenty of backbone for those larger trebles. Get one, you won't be sorry. 1 Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted August 30, 2012 Author Posted August 30, 2012 Thank you! I placed the order for one today from TW. Quote
Megastink Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Good deal! You won't be sorry. My favorite characteristic about this rod is that it doesn't "give" to the crankbait on the retriee too much. But when a fish hits it, it really plays that fish well. Here's a tip: I upgraded all my trebles to Gammy Short shank 2x hooks. They are a little thicker and stay pinned better with this particular rod. Quote
ipeeinmywetsuit Posted August 31, 2012 Posted August 31, 2012 Thank you! I placed the order for one today from TW. Hey these go on sale for I think 109-120 bills on labor day from Tackle Warehouse!! Might be worth the wait? Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted August 31, 2012 Author Posted August 31, 2012 Mega, thanks for the tip. I usually use a lot of the DT series, but for my other cranks I will swap them out. I will be putting a 200E5 on it that I had the bearings polished by DVT and the drag upgraded. I am really looking forward to seeing how far I can throw a lure with this setup!!! I am hitting Toledo Bend next Saturday with it! Pee, No dont say that!! I will watch their website and see if I can get some kind of deal out of it, but Ugh!!! Quote

The sale started yesterday I'm sure they can make an exception if you didn't get the 15% off. Doesn't hurt to call them and try. 1 Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 I checked the website, and my rod I ordered is still at the regular price, the others seemed to have the lower price this weekend. Oh-well, Quote
Super User deep Posted September 1, 2012 Super User Posted September 1, 2012 Give them a call Woody. The 15% discount doesn't show up until you add the rod to your cart, and the discount coupon is already in the cart. 1 Quote
Arv Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 It doesn't look like the 755 is reduced like the others (695, 706, 726). You should still get the 15% off though 1 Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 Yeah, the discount showed up when I put the rod in the cart. So, I called TW up and asked for some help. They issued me a gift card in the refund amount. YEAH, more shopping before Toledo Bend Saturday! Thanks everyone! This is what makes this Bass website the best!!! Quote
BASSHUNTER1961 Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 I finally checked out some Powell rods at a local tackle shop. They looked and felt really nice, but there is one thing I hated about them, the short butt. There is hardly any butt section below the reel, and I did not like that at all. I hope this is not an issue with you. Quote
ipeeinmywetsuit Posted September 1, 2012 Posted September 1, 2012 I absolutely love my Powell endurance. The one thing that bothered me was how inconsistent their resin application was on the guides/blanks. A lot of them seemed to have chips, bubbles, etc. Not that this effects performance but it could cause problems that need to be fixed later. If they could spend a little more time making these rods and remedy this I would never buy a rod from another company. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted September 1, 2012 Author Posted September 1, 2012 I have two other Endurance series rods. I like the power setting the hooks with these rods the most. My hook up to land ratio has gone way up since making these my main go to rods, from the Crucials I have. Quote
ipeeinmywetsuit Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 Haha speaking of their power, I fish some pretty shallow ponds near my house at night with my medium heavy 723 and I have to really be aware of where my bait is and make hook sets accordingly. Every once in a while I'll pop a smaller fish right out of the water.. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted September 2, 2012 Author Posted September 2, 2012 Pee, I have the 723 as well, totally know what you are talking about. Great senko rod! Quote
Indiana Bass1 Posted September 2, 2012 Posted September 2, 2012 I currently have the 703,704, and the 733 all max rods and I love them all. Been eye balling the 755 for deep cranks so I may have to pull the trigger on one before the weekend is over. The guys at *** are great to deal with. I will eventually change all but two of my rods over to powells. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 So, I got the rod today from TW and UPS. Well, it came in a 9' tube, and currently I am rocking a Honda Prelude. In case anyone is wondering 9' tubes and sports cars do not work together. I had to cut the rod from the tube, stick it through the sunroof and do my best "Back to the Future," impression (granted my car is Black instead of silver) home. In case your wondering, I did not hit 88 mph, or use 1.22 Jiggawatts to travel into the future, or maybe I did 2 Quote
