MArnold Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 Hey Glenn I have a MGX also and love it! How do you feel about the new braking system on the MGX? Quote
0119 Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Keep an eye out for a 1500/1600c or a 2500/2600c. They still make them new in Sweden for the Japanese market and they turn up on Ebay all the time. I have just gotten my second 2500c n.i.b. They are capable of throwing down to 3/16 and 1/8oz. With appropriate line and rod. I use them to play with baby tarpon throwing yo zuri pins minnow jerkbaits and baby flukes. Quote
upnorthbassin Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 The only problem with the Max reels is the side to side play in the handle/gear box. I know some is normal, but the Max reels have a ton of it compared to my SX. I have a Black Max 2 and it works great, but I wonder if that play will someday kill the gear box? I wonder that too....but then again I paid $28 for that black max 2 new and I say what the heck I can't pass that up. For cheap money it seems like it will last long enough. I bought it as sort of a beater reel to begin with. Something to keep in the car and I won't be that mad if someone steals it or I slam that rod it's on in the car door or something. I actually think for the $40-$50 they want for those black maxes....those things are a good deal. I'm surprised how mine casts (casts far and fairly smooth on the cast) and how quick it was to dial in. This thing just refuses to backlash. I've done stupid things with it and it just won't backlash. I think the thing is posessed or something. I'm gonna go cast a dumbell into a fence just to see if I can get the thing to do it. hehehe. The retrieve is definitely so/so. You can feel the play in it. It feels like a cheap reel with that play in it. I think it's still money well spent though since the price is so low. I still don't use it that much since it's sort of a backup/keep in the car sorta deal so I don't think I'll burn it up that quick. Almost makes me want to get a revo s to see...but I think I'm gonna get a lews tourney pro next instead. I'll get a revo after that to compare maybe. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted December 1, 2012 Super User Posted December 1, 2012 You guys are going to love the Pro Max reels. I have two of them and have tried to wear them out this past year and they held up great. I sold my last Shimano reel a few months ago and I am finally at 100% Abu baitcasting. I have: 2 Silver Max 2 Black Max 2 Pro Max 1 Revo S 2 Revo SX 2 Revo SC (Cabelas Model) 4 Revo STX But I just can't give up my Okuma spinning reels. Quote
flipin4bass Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 I've always been a Shimano user, but after playing with the Abu Garcia Premier baitcaster at BP last week I think I'm going to pull the trigger on one. That reel is every bit as smooth as the Calais reels I use. Quote
central.PA.bass Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 I have: 2 Revo S 1 Revo SC 1 Revo SX 3 Revo Stx 1 Revo Winch 1 Revo premier. All are gen 1 and gen 2 reels.. I can't wait to try the new gen 3 Quote
TNBassin' Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 I have the new S and new STX and I can't say enough about them. The STX flat out slings baits like you wouldn't believe. Crazy distance, light weight, awesome foam handles, and very smooth. Quote
The Next KVD Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I just bought my mom a new 7ft MH Gen2 Vendetta and a Black Max to go with it for xmas and I must say I'm extremely impressed by how it looks, feels, and balances. Kinda wish I bought it for myself and this is coming from a St.Croix/Shimano fan. Quote
