wademaster1 Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 i fish all winter and usually catch fish just not as many Quote
SuskyDude Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 We used to have a warm water discharge on the river in our area but they shut it down a few years back. It's good for the river but it sucks for me. I fish until ice up, usually around December. Then, the auger and the Marcum get busted out. Quote
quanjig Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Well, yea!! If it aint frozen, I'm trying'! Last year here in VA, was the best winter I can remember. Caught some awesome jb fish and some very good finess jig fish. Some of the highly pressured lakes here in NOVA can caugh up some studs in December/January (Burke Lake) Some of the ponds and lakes make finding concentrations of good fish very simple and easy to relocate from trip to trip. It's well worth the effort to fish in the winter. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 I get out on the ice a few times thru the winter and then theres always the 80 gal fish tank..... Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted August 25, 2012 Super User Posted August 25, 2012 Year round. The part about fish not eating in winter and expending all their energy is total bunk. They eat all winter long. They also are a lot less likely to suffer delayed mortality in winter than any other time of year as a result of colder water temperatures: reduced chance of a buildup of lactic acid, there's reduced chance of having warmwater bacterium infection, their slime coats are in generally better condition. They have more than enough energy in winter, it's of no more harm than other times of the year, usually a lot less. 2 Quote
Super User MCS Posted August 25, 2012 Super User Posted August 25, 2012 Guess who ? From all winter December is the only month that I don´t fish, got many family important dates which we celebrate for the Sundays: Dec 7 th .- Ball n´chain´s B-day Dec 19 th.- Wedding Anniversary Dec 27 th.- Lil Raul´s B-day Once those are gone it´s time to grab my stuff again and hit the water. Kinda freaky, some of our December dates match. my wife and moms bdays are the 7th also. I was also married on the 19 in LV and the 31st (wedding with the families) my boys bdays are the 18 of dec and 18 of jan. busy time of year for me too! Being my first winter here I look forward to it, I made it out a couple of times in Feb in VA and landed some nice sunfish Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted August 25, 2012 Global Moderator Posted August 25, 2012 I fish tourn all year long, salt and fresh.. As a few already said..Here in Fla it's non stop no matter what you fish for, no matter where you live. Just grap a pole and go! Mike Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted August 25, 2012 Super User Posted August 25, 2012 I was living in NJ so I could not fish all winter because of the snow and freezing temps. But now that I am in FL I will be fishing all year round! Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted August 25, 2012 Super User Posted August 25, 2012 I am fortunate to live in South Fl and enjoy fishing all winter long. The only down side is that the days get a little shorter. I' ll deal with it. Quote
desertwitch Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 With TX heat, I fish more in winter than I do in summer. When it gets VERY cold here (I'm talking 20°), we'll hit our power-plant lakes at Bastrop and Fayetteville. There's nothing so wonderful as launching on a cold morning into a steamy 68° lake. The breezes actually feel good when they hit you and those pickles make excellent hand-warmers when you unhook them. And with the warmer water, the bite is always on. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 26, 2012 Super User Posted August 26, 2012 The only time I don't get out is if the water is iced over. Quote
38 Super Fan Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Yep, at it all year. It can be tough, but anything beats just sitting around the house for me. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted August 26, 2012 Super User Posted August 26, 2012 I used to fish till the ice rolled in then I stopped because I never caught anything. If I had a boat id probably fish year round id find some where with soft water in WNY. Now I Ice fish and when I'm not doing that in the winter months I spend most of my time trying to out wit coyotes and fox for some extra coin when i sell the pelts I'd rather bass fish though. Quote
tnriverluver Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 All year long here in West Tn. Sauger starting about Nov thru early spring. 72 degrees here this past New Years eve!!! Bass all year with whatever else I can get to bite. 30 degrees and below I stay home knowing a warmer day won't be to far around the corner. Quote
KevO Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Winter is my favorite time to fish! The only people out there are other fisherman, so its less crowded and you're not getting beat up by jet skis. IMHO its the best time of the year to catch a toad. 1 Quote
West Coast Bass Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 i fish all winter. we are blessed with pretty solid winters so it doesn't change too much. just go deeper than usual. Quote
tholmes Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 I'll fish as long as there's open water. Tom Quote
