Super User grimlin Posted August 29, 2012 Super User Posted August 29, 2012 Waxahachie(ellis county) is a great place too.... My brother lives in Mckinney, but also a nice area and like someone mentioned it's #1 place to live. Mckinney traffic is bad though(least I thought it was). Waxahachie, you can pretty much drive 30 minutes or less and be in DFW or all the other surrounding cities. we are building up pretty fast out here as well. The schools are EXCELLENT here. Plenty of country around here and I doubt horses will be any issues. taxes are getting bad in DFW......As much as I like DFW area...I wouldn't really want to live there. I grew up in Dallas for the most part. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted September 18, 2012 Author Super User Posted September 18, 2012 I just seen an article on yahoo for 10 best small cities to buy a home in 2 of the top 3 were in Texas. number one was Spring, Texas number 3 was Missouri City. Spring supposedly is having ExxonMobil is moving its global HQ there in 2014 bringing 8000 jobs with it. Maybe one of the places I look into. Quote
Jake P Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 I hope if you move it all works out for the best. I would just be very careful moving to a small city for 1 job. If for some reaosn it didnt work out, there wouldnt be many other choices. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted September 19, 2012 Author Super User Posted September 19, 2012 well no it wouldn't be for one job just seen that on the article about that city I'm sure there's more then just that to get it ranked for one of the best places to move to in the states Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted October 3, 2012 Author Super User Posted October 3, 2012 Hows the Huston area I just got a lead on a possible job there. Quote
Quillback Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Hows the Huston area I just got a lead on a possible job there. I've been there a few times, lots of traffic, hot and humid in the summer. Don't know about the fishing opportunities, but it's close to the gulf. Gotta be some LM fishing in the area. Quote
Super User Raul Posted October 5, 2012 Super User Posted October 5, 2012 I can´t say much about the upper half of the state, I´ve been only a couple of times for a few hours at DFW, I´ve lived in San Antonio and right on the border ( McAllen ), an aunt of mine lives in Houston and to tell you the truth, even though I like heat Houston is too "#!%&!!! humid for my taste. I´m torn between San Antonio and McAllen ( if I had to choose I think that I would prefer McAllen/Pharr/Mission ( in practical terms nowdays it´s the same town ) ) but I can´t say much about job opportunities n´stuff like that, back then when I lived in San Antonio I was a student with a scholarship and when I lived in McAllen I was single in a leap year with enough money to spend and didn´t need a job. Can´t tell you much about huntin´ because I don´t hunt, can tell you about fishin though: Choke Cannyon reservoir ( a little piece of heaven ), Falcon and Amistad reservoirs, South Padre Island ( oh dear ! ) and all of them are not too far from either ( San Antonio and McAllen ) A few years ago my wife began nagging me about us moving to the States, problem was that she had the idea of us moving to California and more specifically, moving to where she´s from ( Grover Beach ) , hell, I ain´t got nuthin´ to do there ! first of all it´s in the middle of nowhere, second, the Saint Andreas Fault practically crosses your back yard, third, when it ain´t rainy it´s foggy, it´s cold and it don´t matter you live practically at the beach cuz the ocean is stone cold, the only "attractive" bass fishin hole is Lopez Lake and there´s nothing interesting in it, fourth, the idea is to sell my properties and with that get a home .... man, with what I was going to get with my stuff in California with Californy real estate prices you can´t get a room ! , also we have the thorny situation: what I´m going to do to make a living ? So after several months the offer on my behalf was: McAllen or nothing. The place has everything I like: the weather ( hot ), great fishing on both sides of the border, no Saint Andreas fault running beneath my bed, not in the tornado alley, far enough from the gulf not needing to worry much about a hurricane landing on your house but close enough to go fishing, I can choose on which side of the border I can establish a business, if I want to continue my veterinary practice I can open a veterinary clinic in Reynosa and cross the bridge twice a day and on the monetary side, I can get a nice home with the money I would get from selling my stuff here. Super User roadwarrior Posted October 5, 2012 Super User Posted October 5, 2012 Man, that sounds great to me! Quote
Jake P Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Clayton. Us Texans refer to Houston as the butthole of Texas. IMO and personal experiences there, I would say you might not like it. But we all are different and alot of people call Houston home. if the job is great though maybe you should look into it further. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted October 5, 2012 Super User Posted October 5, 2012 Clayton, having lived in Dubai and Ahwaz, Iran and in Houston, I can promise you that the heat and humidity in Houston are nothing compared to the Persian Gulf area. Houston and its suburbs cover a vast area - about a thousand square miles. The nearest lake is Lake Houston, located just northeast of the city. Lakes Conroe and Livingston are about fifty miles away. And of course there is ready access to salt water fishing. Quote

I like the dry heat though it's helped my lungs and allergy's a ton another reason I wanna move down south to a hot dry area I don't like the color green anyways lol. theres a few jobs im sending my resume to this weekend a few in Texas one in NM, and a few in NY that travels to "NorthEast territories" as a field tech.
