TrippyJai Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 Headed out to the lake after dinner and only had an hour and a half to fish. On my first cast, my square bill crankbait hung up on a rock and I spent 10 minutes trying to free it. Couldn't pop it off and had to break the line. I was pretty disappointed and actually wanted to head home. It was my favourite bait. I decided to retie a new crank and It hung up on a rock again, but managed to free it. Couple casts later, I felt my crankbait deflect off a rock and this bass struck it. I borrowed a digital scale and it came in at 3.99? Does it mean it is only 4lb? I am positive it was bigger than that because this fish was huge! I tried to hold it in front of my chest when the picture was taken. The bass was long and thick. I wish I could of measured it, but all I wanted to do was get it back in the water ASAP. A fish this size up in Ontario is rare. What an awesome feeling it was to see it swim away. BTW, had to distort the background for obvious reasons. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted August 23, 2012 Super User Posted August 23, 2012 Good for you, as the weight goes I would blame watching everyone else talk about 'big ones' and claiming huge numbers when they really aren't, from pro to joe. As far as measuring, in time you'll work out a quick system to weigh, measure, and photograph. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 23, 2012 Super User Posted August 23, 2012 Nice fish, great pic! Unfortunately, scales tend to cause fish to lose weight. Most 'bout 7 or 8 are ~5. Unweighed 5's are usually 3-4. Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted August 23, 2012 Super User Posted August 23, 2012 I dont think that is 4lb I think its bigger than that looks it anyway. the scale could have been weighing in different units I know mine has that setting but thzt fish is definitly over 4 I would say closer to 5 or 6 Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted August 23, 2012 Super User Posted August 23, 2012 Good fish regardless of the weight. Scales don't lie. Congrats on the new 4lb PB!! Jeff Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted August 23, 2012 Super User Posted August 23, 2012 Congrats! Nice fish. Where was that time portal you crawled through to take the picture? Quote
wademaster1 Posted August 23, 2012 Posted August 23, 2012 i think that fish is a solid 4lb fish; congrats; and it doesnt really matter what it actually weighs because its a trophy in your book and thats all that matters anyway; especially in your location; nice fish!! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted August 23, 2012 Super User Posted August 23, 2012 Nice job! The scale is right, that's a four. - really nice fish Pictures and fisherman always lie. Scales usually don't. If you have doubts, you can easily verify it with a known weight. 1 Quote

The one that got away Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 I would absolutely be rounding that up to a 4. Congrats on the new PB! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 24, 2012 Global Moderator Posted August 24, 2012 Looks like about the right weight but it's hard to tell with pics. Get a length and girth on them too so you can do fish calculators plus it's easier for other people to guess the weight. I'd guess that fish is around 18.5-19 inches long which usually equals a fish around 4 pounds in most bodies of water. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted August 24, 2012 Super User Posted August 24, 2012 That's a nice Canadian bass. Congrats. Quote
bassman31783 Posted August 24, 2012 Posted August 24, 2012 Chunk. Really beautiful fish. Congrats. Quote
