Fishing Boatdocks

What is the best way to fish boat docks? Do you all flip into the stalls or do you just fish around the boat dock w/out putting your lure into the stall? Just curious.

put it in every spot possible.. when u get the obvious ones covered, try skipping one underneath if possible.

work them forwards, backwards, sideways. get creative with your approach because you would be surprised where the fish often are hiding. i like to cover one side of an inlet, then work your way backwards to rule out any fish that potentially never saw your lure. have been having a lot of fun flipping plastics under docks and topwater in and around the cover. mostly fish at night so the evening bite will draw out those wary bass.

Sure you can just hit the outside corners, or posts, etc....and you'll catch a fish or two here and there, but to really maximize the number of fish you can catch off docks, you HAVE to get that bait into any and all of the deep dark places you can access. Learn to skip baits, both weighted and weightless. Learn to skip with casting gear too. There is no magic bait to fish docks. Somedays they want a weightless plastic, some days they want a jig , some days they will come up and smash a frog. Only you can figure that out on that perticular day.

Weightless senko on a spinning setup is the way to go. You can skip it way under the dock and boat lift with a flick of the wrist and don't have to worry about pulling line out on a baitcaster to make it fall vertically. Be sure to use at least a 2 foot braid leader and tight drag because when you hook into a decent fish, it'll try to wrap you around the posts and will break off 8lb flourocarbon like it's nothing.

I start out with topwater after that i move to spinnerbaits and squarebill crankbaits. As the day moves on I start to throw jigs and senko's.

Bump the spinnerbait and crankbait off the posts and run them under floating docks if present.

Flip senko's under docks and flip jigs to metal posts.

Remember , dont leave any spot untouched.

One more thing to concider when fishing docks, the most productive ones will be the older ones, the ones that have been there long enough to collect a good amount of algae, bait fish will often stop to feed, and when there are bait fish we know there are preditors.
