If You Are 18 Or Younger Please Read This If You Plan To Post A Resume

Please don’t kill the messenger here but I am going to tell you all what most of the people in the forum will tell you and they are for the most part correct.

• If you’re under 18 the chance of a company giving you a fair sponsorship or one at all is very low.
  
• Go to high school
  
• Don’t tell people how you are doing ok in school, you need A’s and B’s now. Mostly A’s
  
• Fish at your high school
  
• Get a part time job to pay your tournament expenses not sponsorship
  
• Get to college, get a degree in communications, PR, Marketing, Advertising or something along those lines
  
• Fish in college
  
• Make as many contacts as possible, have cards, keep their cards, and make sure that you are always acting professional, if you aren’t you can make a bad name for yourself fast and it will spread like wild fire in the industry
  
• Make good grades in college, learn as much as possible and fish as much as possible in your free time
  
• Get your boat, truck, ect before you a wife, kid, baby’s mama, ect.
  
• When you do go looking do your research and know what you are looking for and don’t settle if it is not up to what you know you should be getting
  
• Listen to people you can trust
  
• Don’t be the guy who weighs in and runs for the truck to go home
  
• Find what sets you apart
  
• Find a day jobs whose vacations role over so over time you can build up off days.
  
• Build a good website
  
• Learn to write(I’m still working on this)
  
• Don’t expect things, many pro staffs and sponsorships will come out of no were, so when you are at shows take the time to talk to anyone who is interested in talking with you. You will learn quickly people know who you are way before you are at the highest levels in the industry.
  

If any one has anything else feel free to add, I know we wont all agree on everything but I felt like this was a good wrap up.

I used to be basspro96 on here, I went from looking from sponsors a few years ago, and just a few weeks ago I found myself working in a booth at the Forrest wood cup talking to guys that are the best in the business. Just keep on chugging guys. You work hard, and you will make it.

But to all those kids eho strive to reach there goals, DO NOT GIVE UP. Keep at it, and one day you will be the guy on stage weighing in a 25lockdown pound bag and watchin thr guys in the crowd joke about,"jeez, wonder where his lobster cage full of bass is?".

Getting a college degree is crucial in today's world. I know that this will cut into the time spent on the water, but it will give you a very nice backup plan should something go awry.

Here is a suggestion for younger Anglers to start getting their name out.

Go to a local tackle shop, ask them when they are having a big sale on or promotion , offer to work( for free) the sale weekend helping customers to select product, be cheerful, helpfull, and talk fishing not only what you caught and done but listen to them, sponsorship is not only being able to fish! but being able to sell product.
