So some of these threads recently got me reminiscing of my youth and how I was always getting in trouble because I would skip class or be out late chasing salmon and trout in the fall and small mouth in the spring and summer. I'v been grounded numerous times for it growing up and its landed me in the dog house as a married man a few times to for missing dinner because the bite picked up when I was told to come home dinner was ready, funny how that works isn't it.

So how have you guys gotten in trouble from fishing or even hunting for that matter I'v been in trouble for both fro my mother or wife about equally lol. I hope my boys follow my footsteps id rather have to scold for fishing or hunting to much then god knows what else kids could be doing now a days.

We use my gf's aunts boat when we go fishing, but next year I'm gonna buy my own and I figure that will be when I get to sleep on the couch, eat cold meals, and be in the dog house constantly. I need a house boat!!!

Been in trouble too many times that I can't rember all of them. The first one that comes to mind was when I was about ten I had went squirrel hunting. It was getting dark so I started heading home. There was a field between the house and the woods. And in the field was this mean mean mean Holstein bull. I came up to the fence and he seen me, came running down there and wouldn't let me get past him. I went back into the woods and walked down a ways and tried to come up at a different spot in the woods. Didn't work bull followed me. By this time it was really dark and , my mother was starting to think something was wrong and freaking out. It snowballed until she got dad down there to look for me. I had finally got past the bull and was almost home when he found me. Nevermind that it wasn't my fault, I got grounded for a long time and the weirdest "lecture" ever from mom. " I thought u were dead"

shoreline fishing in the suburbs were almost all the good fishing lakes are private has gotten me run off by the lakes residents on numerous occasions, one even left a note on my car telling me that she was going to call the authorities (she thankfully didnt and the fishing wasnt that great on her lake anyways). Probably the worst thing i did was accidentily fish in a nature center near my house. I saw this lake on google maps and decided to checl it out. When i get there theres a rather worn fence about seven feet tall. Hopped the fence and started fishing the lake. I was amazed at all the sizable bass that absolutely destroyed almost everything i thru at them, almost like they had never seen lures before....and something about the lake seemed so familiar (i had gone to the nature center alot as a kid). Then it hit me. So i quickly finished fishing my last senko and left. Didnt get in trouble for it, but lord knows if it wasnt a weekday and there had been more people there i dont even want to think about all the trouble i couldve gotten into.

I remember one time I was fishing during the summer by the waterfalls in the thread about my sons fish this past week but Clay and I had saved up some money and bought a cast net. We used to catch all our own bait usually crawfish but we wanted minnows so we got this cast net and caught hundreds of shinners and alewives. We started around 7am rode our bikes there from Clays house and started catching minnows and fishing. as the evening came I snuck home and grabbed my lantern and snuck back down the the falls and we continued to fish all into the night. I had put on the last big alewive and cast it out there and passed out on the rocks waiting.

Now this minnow was huge I remember doubting it would catch anything it was the size of most the bull head we had been catching. Sure enough though I get woken up to Clay nudging me asking where my pole was we started shining the light in the water and seen this rooster tail getting thrown up from my reel getting dragged into the water.

I ran out after it as the water is only 2-3ft in MOST spots I say most cuz there's a few big holes out there well i found one of the holes got completely drenched lost my hat but still managed to get my rod and then back to shore. I fought this thing for a good 45 minutes I remember Clay was looking at the town clock thinking of how we were gonna be dead when we showed up home. It ended up being this monster of a channel cat we got it up and on shore held it for a bit and while figuring out how we were gonna make a stringer it broke the line and fell back in never to be seen again.

We walked our bikes back home to my moms house in town and my mother and his parents were there waiting with the police. There I was soaked and Clay bone dry other then some fish slime. We got the lecture of a life time wasn't the first time or the last though lol. The whole we thought the worst and what were you thinking speeches. The whole time they searched for us they never did check by the creek you would think our parents would know us and the fact that we pretty much lived at the water falls it should of been the first place they looked but it wasn't not that time or like the 5 times to follow all with the same outcome. We ended up being grounded for a week I think I did dishes and buttered my mom up like I always did to get a reduced sentence. We were maybe 11 when this happened and we got home at 330am I remember it like it was yesterday

And yes me and my best friend growing up shared the same name and birthday pretty much I'm 5 days older we did everything together from age 7 till I got married 4 years ago.

I owned a moped business.....by owned, it was in my name, dad co-signed so I ran dads business (not how it was supposed to be,lol),...anyway,....you would have been AMAZED how many days it rained in Newport for those 10 yrs,lol......."I just drove by and the place is closed!!!!".....,..."well,it started to rain so I closed up" Evidently,...one drop constituted rain when I was 17 and itching to fish, shoot, if a wet dog shook out his coat near me I'd swear it was gonna pour any minute......trouble, trouble, trouble

I used to catch a lot of grief from my EX-wife. Now, my wife doesn't object to my fishing and wants to go with me a lot of the time.

Fishing, hunting can be hard on a marriage unless your spouse supports your activity. Marriage is a partnership that both sides must make compromises; it's give and take with mutual respect to make it work.

If you are young and living at home, let your parents know where you going and what you plan to do, you owe them that and as a result you will earn their trust. Everyone makes mistakes and learn from the experience, the key is not to repeat mistakes that get you into trouble.

I regards to today's youth, you better get involved at a very early age and get your kids outdoors; camping, short fishing trips, hiking and teaching them to enjoy the outdoors. This takes time away from fishing and hunting and is one of the compromise in life that pays back. If you don't your kids may become consumed by the Internet world.

As a youth my passion to be outdoors bordered on obsession. Fishing, hunting, trapping and collecting critters became a real challenge for my parents and I was getting in trouble with them a lot. Looking back my parents worked and didn't take the time needed with me or my brothers. I learned that lesson and spent the time with my kids and we had very few problems with them. My wife knows me well and is my partner for life; I fish, she shops and we spend some time together doing both, she doesn't like to fish but likes being outdoors and I don't like to shop, but tag along and enjoy the time together.

I have gotten in Trouble too many times from fishing and still do to this day, like terrible weather, or getting stuck or lost while trying to get to the lake, boat ramp problems, boat problems while on the water, Broken rods, trolling batteries run down, there are so many to mention BUT running out of baits when the BITE is HOTT is the worst trouble I've EVER gotten into and I'll never do that again :laugh5:

LOL, fine topic ;) IMO, a fisherman has a NEED to fish and a family that understands that NEED is a demonstration of True Love. NOW throw that at'em and see if it STICKS... But don't blame me if it doesn't, I don't want to be IN TROUBLE :respect-059:

I do believe this is true. I know if I go too long without getting out my wife will start telling me I need to go.

As a kid I got in trouble numerous times, as an adult never. Heck, we had the whole neighborhood looking for a friend of mine and I one night when we got into a good bite and just couldn't quit.

I skipped alot of school to fish when I was younger, I am amazed I even graduated. I have been at my current job for 15+ years, with my wife for 20+, and married for the last 11....I used to tell my wife I was "working late"....and tell the boss "I have to be home early" and would go fish....they never bought it anyways, so now I just go fishing when I want, as long as my work is done.

I remember my dad always told me stories about when my grandma would come over he would grab his stuff and dart out the backdoor and fish in the river behind the house my parents had. I started doing the same thing my mom would tell me grandma is coming over and i would be out the door before she could finish saying it. I still do it to this day haha. My grandma is NUTS!!! I'm gonna have to pass that one down to my sons also but it will be when my mother is coming!

My dad always tell the story about how he and his brother hit their fishing hole on the way to church one Sunday, and my uncle fell in the water in his church clothes. Showed up to church soaking wet and muddy.
