RobertBG Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 first and foremost would be the time spent with a true fishing buddy....................whether we talk or just fish or do both it just makes the time on the water nice. Second I love searching for that lunker, teaching someone something new and or learning something new myself. Third and by far not the least important is having time to relax, reflect and think....................hard to find in my world and fishing helps put these 3 things together in any order on any given day fishing and you have what makes a big part of me a fisherman Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted August 20, 2012 Super User Posted August 20, 2012 Exploring new waters, getting out with my wifes grabfather or uncle, or just getting away from the wife (lol), testing new equipment, testing myself, clearing my head, and the list goes on. Quote
mikey5string Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 5lb plus bass which have thus far eluded me. Trying new baits/techniques/equipment. Getting outside and away from the rat race, spending time with good people, BSing at the dock with the other guys at the end of the day, watching the sun come up on the lake, being the first/only one out there when it does. Coming up on a perfect spot or a new lake, topwater bites, having a big bass slam a lure right at the boat, getting all my stuff ready the night before, stopping for a nice lunch after eating a granola bar in the previous 8 hours, perfect casts...., just a few reasons. Super User Nitrofreak Posted August 20, 2012 Super User Posted August 20, 2012 There are so many answers to that question, My answer would be, self satisfaction, what drives me to keep fishing is a ton of different things, new things that I learn from here, practicing flipping and pitching in the yard, learning new ways to attract a bite and striking out, just being on the water looking for new structure and cover, all the up's and down's that go along with fishing, searching for that one go to bait, it drives me freaking nutts and it gives me a ton of satisfaction all in the same day. It always ends with the same answer, because it's what I love to do. Quote
shootermcbob Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 The peace and quiet, the serenity of being outdoors as it turns from day to night, or night to day, the constant anticipation that this cast is going to be "the one". Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted August 20, 2012 Super User Posted August 20, 2012 I would have to say that it's my addiction to the pursuit of knowledge. It wasn't always that way for me. It used to be my need for a big fish but I figured out that I catch more big fish when know more about them. 1 Quote
Clint C. Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 It's just simply what I love to do... To keep my mind on fishing when things are slow I like to imagine exactly what my lure is doing under the water. Try to picture it in my head. that's usually when I get bit too =0) I never get tired of learning new things and trying to figure out the puzzle! Quote
Unknownwaters Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Honestly I would have to say the puzzle/mysterious aspect of it and the natural beauty of the lake. Everytime I see a lake with fish all I can think about is what could be underwater, were would the fish be sitting, what kind of techniques and lures could work, and so on. I always love picturing were the fish i catch were sitting and what they were doing and why they bite. Quote
"Lunker Hunter" Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 1) I want to put a 10lb plus trophy on the wall. By pics and measurements of course would not kill the lunker if at all possible. 2) Fishing with a friend either someone who knows how to fish or someone I can teach. 3) Nature all around me 4) I like being on or near water And the best reason 5) To get away from the wife..... lol Quote

Super User MarkH024 Posted August 21, 2012 Super User Posted August 21, 2012 I echo that sentiment. X2 and I have an addiction to figuring it out. Its a new game every time out. It never gets old. Quote
Silas Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Serenity of mind. Peace! "Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy!" Quote
prjavelin Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 the challenge, the anticipation. Ive always felt like the lake was the most peaceful place there was in the whole world. I love that place even when it skunks my to hell and back. I feel at peace. Quote
Will Wetline Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I go for the challenge of finding and catching fish, but underlying that - and more important - is the opportunity to get away from hassles and obligations and just plain "be there." Makes me smile. 3 Quote

Makes me smile. This. I work a very hectic schedule in grueling conditions, and just being out on the water just melts everything else away. No stress, no worrying about this or that, just me, peace and quiet, and me in my own little world. It's therapeutic for me. Quote

Makes me smile. Same for me, it's my release from the stresses of everyday life. I forget about everything when I'm on the water. It's just me, my gear, and nature. The challenge in trying to figure the fish out day to day is a big part of it also. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted August 21, 2012 Super User Posted August 21, 2012 I'v been fishing sense I was 2 my dad would wheel me down by the river with him in the stroller and wed fish I did the same with my oldest boy and will with my youngest too. Bass and pike fishing seems to be in my blood I'v been grounded so many times growing up for skipping school to fish I fished everyday most of my childhood and teenage life and not much has changed not even while deployed iv still found a way to go fishing just not as often. I think I went so much and still do because I just love being out doors and in nature it calms me down nothing else matters once out there just me and the fish or me and a fishing buddy whether it be my best friend growing up Clay, or my wife, nephew, my sons, or father. Even with all the drama and stress marriage brings when me and the wife go fishing its all behind us even she lets it all go. Fishing is just therapy but cheaper well idk that its cheaper but its definitely therapy. Plus I'm convinced one of the spots I fish holds the NYS record LMB so that helps to lol. Quote
Fishinbyrd Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Lot of the reasons already mentioned. But reeling in a big bass that makes my reel go bzzzzzzzz is such a high, I can't find it anywhere else. Quote

moguy1973 Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Before we had our daughter 3 months ago I would stop in at a local park near our house 3-4 times a week after work. The small lake inside this park has lots of small blue gill and lots of small 6-8" bass with a few up to 3 lbers I have landed. I didn't care about catching the lunkers but I caught fish probably 90% of the time and that made me happy. I also spent about an hour and a half there and just the calming effect fishing had on me made me forget the previous 10 hours I spent at work and that's really what made it all worth going fishing and kept me stopping just about every night to fish. Relaxation and stress relief couldn't be better. Now my daughter takes precidence and I can probably count on one hand how many times I've gone fishing since she was born, but I really don't care anymore because the times spent with her far outweigh any fish I can catch. She'll be old enough to fish soon enough and I'll be more than happy to teach her all I know about fishing. Quote
