hookedahawg Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 So I bought a phluger baitcaster off craigslist. I had to work so I sent my wife to pick it up. Long story short the anti reverse is broken. Is there anyway to fix it or should l chalk this one up to lesson learned? Thanks guys! Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Contact Pure fishing and see what they say. Im sure you can send it in and get it fixed cheap. Quote
The Rooster Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 It's probably just the AR bearing gone out. Take apart to check first but this could just need a new bearing. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 What model reel? Has the AR failed completely or is there just some intermittent back play? If you used PayPal you can dispute through them or just fix it if it's worth it. If the AR failed entirely there may be further damage. If you'd like gone through feel free to send it in. Quote
Capt.Bob Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Probably just the AR but if not sure how to service it, either get your money back or if you want to keep it send it someone who sevices reels professionally. It could be the AR just needs serviced PROPERLY, I would think at worst replaced. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted August 20, 2012 Super User Posted August 20, 2012 It could be as simple as the AR bearing being in backwards. Does the drag work? Does the handle turn? Quote
hookedahawg Posted August 21, 2012 Author Posted August 21, 2012 Yeah it turns with no problem forward and backward. Its a cheapo phluger, so I'm not out but $20.00. Just stinks I got a broken reel. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted August 21, 2012 Super User Posted August 21, 2012 Yeah it does, sounds like either the bearing is completely fried or not there at all. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted August 21, 2012 Super User Posted August 21, 2012 Willing to bet there isn't anything FRIED in the reel. That issue comes up every time the continuous AR's get greased, or over oiled by a novice that thinks they know how to service reels. If in the case of an older AR dog, probably just needs to be cleaned and adjusted.... Send that puppy to Mike (DVT) willing to bet it works like new!!! Tight Lines! Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted August 22, 2012 Super User Posted August 22, 2012 The handle turning backwards is as solid indicator that the AR bearing is either missing or to fouled up with gunk or rust (fried) to work. If this is a low end Pflueger with graphite frames etc, then you probably should just count it as a loss. If it is an aluminum frame reel, send it DVT he can fix it clean it, whatever. I know from experience that the low end reels don't have the best components, I had an ar bearing go out on a cheapo reel, rusted, I put one in backwards, or more accurately upside down, the reel handle wouldn't turn forward, easy to know if that happened to your reel. Sorry about getting burned. Quote
hookedahawg Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 Thanks for the advice fellas, gonna have to call this one a loss though. No big deal, the wife feels bad so she's gonna get me a pro qualifier in a week or two. Quote
