Whats Your Favorite Way To Fish Wooded Areas?

So i found this new lake today with tons of dead trees in the water alond the bannk and dead trees still standing and ii mean alot about 3/4s of the lake all covered with standing timber and in the back there is alot of scum. not think i can break the surface with a senko and fish under it.. i tried frogs spinner buzz baits jerk baits crank baits jigs lizads pretty much my whole tackle box for covered areas..is there anything that you guys like to use or works best for you? i got a nice 7.6 lb there today but i know theres bigger ones..or if anybody knows of articles and forums on here post the link for me :0 thanks very much..sorry if theres missed spelled words im on my phone texting it

I love fishing timber its my favorite cover to fish. For me its hard to beat a jig but then again jig is my go to for every situation but if I find a tree or branches that broke off in storms and are now in the water I almost always get a fish off it with a jig crashing in and all around it.

yea same here all the time i do that but i mean this place looks like half of the woods were over taking by waer and all the trees died many years ago.. im saying a good couple of hundered trees.. what type of trailer do you like? ive been breaking off rabbit tails..or yum crawdads.

Rage craws are my go to for trailers I just bite off a bit to make it the right length where in upstate NY did you find this place I know of a few but like you described but there posted or fenced off.

I live by like 30 mins south of albany..umm well some are posted but i go and ask the ppl most of the time its an older couple and i can usaly win there hearts ha

For me, nothng beats the excitment of running a squarebilled crank through some wood and bumping it off something, having it deflect and then WHAM!!! Thats how I would attack any wood first, if they won't come up and smack that, then I flip or pitch a jig in there..........if that don't work..............I fish some other type of cover.

Depends on how thick the cover is. If I can run a squarebill through it there isn't anything that triggers quite as well as that seems to. Make sure you spool up with quality line doing this though. I use 15lb fluoro to help with the abrasions and check your line often and retie when it's needed. Best tournament I ever had was running squarebills through wood at Truman Lake in Missouri. A spinnerbait, swim jig, buzzbait, or topwater fished through them can be great too. Of course there's always the obvious flipping a jig or your plastic bait of choice into it also.

Any kind of flipping or pitching bait, square billed crank bait and spinnerbait. And for the scum i would use spro frogs.

Jig and pig. I would drop it straight down next to one of those trees that are still standing.

Why not just do the exact same thing you did to catch the 7.6? a 7.6 is a great fish anywhere let alone upstate NY.

Square bill crank baits and pitching Jig n Pig. Crash the square bills off the sides and pause it just for a moment. Don't just zoom it past the timber as you don't always know which way they're facing. If you smash it into the wood and pause, they'll likely turn to that direction from the disturbance, that pause will give them a chance to burst out for it. Keep at it, timber is always a great source for nice bass.

I would bump spinnerbaits and squarebill crankbaits off the wood to get reaction strikes.
