Drop-Shot Help

I started using the drop shot last year and still need some help. Whenever I would feel that tick-tick, I'd reel in the slack then set the hook but would miss the fish. I had to wait until the line started moving to set the hook and I was just wondering if that is what you were actually supposed to do or if I was doing something wrong

When I feel the bite, I just start reeling and  gently sweep my rod away, just like I would for a crankbait bite, they usually hook themselves when I do that. I don't really find myself "setting the hook as I would a jig or T-rig bite. BTW, I'm no expert, I'm sure others will chime in.

i have found that for myself, reeling down and sweeping is the most productive hookset for dropshotting.  its very much like a c-rig hookset. i also find that those times you get that solid bite... the one that is a jolt that tries to take the pole out of your hand... a wrist set with a sweep is better than letting them scare you into trying to cross their eyes. save the big hook sets for heavy cover/ shallow-ish water.

Ive noticed alot of times when im using a DS,I am bumping the bait along,keeping the weight in contact with the bottom,and the line would just load up and the fish would just be there,so real tick tick or tap tap,just a notice of the line being heavier than normal.

Ive had bites to where the fish hit and just take off. Im totally unprepared,it happens so fast and I usually miss the fish on those kind of bites. Happens so quick,I just never have time to react. Bites like that almost pull the rod out of my hand.Someday ill be able to hook one of them suckers and find out just what was striking so hard and fast. Im bettin it was Bluegill or Green Sunfish.
