I have started using XPS fluorocarbon line for the past year now, but it seems like it gets kinks that feel like little knots in the line quite frequently. Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Just wondering if this is normal with most fluorocarbon lines. I would think this would weaken the line.

Thanks,

Not sure what your problem is, but I have been using BPS Flouro in 14 and 12lb for five years now and have not experienced that problem, so I doubt it is the line. I wish I could be more helpful in solving your problem. I do recall reading in the past that there is a thing called a "wind knot" which can occur in lines. Perhaps others who have experienced this will comment on the cause.

I'm no expert with fluoros, but did you spool it on in the right direction?

Are you using baitcasting or spinning gear? I have used 12lb on my baitcast reel with no kinks but I did break off on a big fish so I took it off the reel.

I'm guessing u have backlashed and got a kink in the line, its pretty common with flouro. Kinda the nature of the beast. Also it will snap at the kink. I talk from experience :)

Try using some KVD line conditioner on a regular basis. It will make your line silky smooth and improve your casts.

Agree with backlashes causing kinks.

Like MarkH said, KVD might help a bit.

I've been using XPS flouro for years, but primarily as a leader on my braid. The only rod I have fully spooled with flouro is 6# on my light spinning rig. Never had a problem with kinks, but I use KVD on it after every outing.

A backlash, even a small one can and will kink your line.

Thanks for all the great replies. Yes, I am using baitcasters and yes I have a backlash once in a while. I will try some of the KVD line conditioner to see if that helps and try to be more careful fixing backlashes.

The BPS in Nashville took it off the shelves temorarily. One of the guys in our fishing club uses it all the time and loves it. A month or so ago he went to buy some more and when he couldn't find it he asked about it.They told him there was a problem with it so they stopped selling it til the issue was cleared up. I don't know what the issue was or is but if you bought yours recently this could be it. My friend did not have any issues with the line he has on hand.

Flourocarbon is a stiffer line and is prone to problems like you mention. I have had very good luck with the XPS Flouro. As has already been mentioned, using KVD Line & Lure will help a lot. It was developed specifically for flouro. and braid, although you will get benefits for all types of line. It will also enable you to make your flouro. last longer, because it will keep it soft and manageable. That's a big benefit with the cost of flouro. Apply it ahead of time so it has time to dry for the most benefit.

Interesting, not sure if maybe I got a bad batch of line or not.

I did run up to Bass Pro today and purchase some KVD line conditioner. Looking forward to seeing how it performs.
