here shortly, it looks like I will have to break down and go night fishing :-l

Here's why..... my Striper fishing around here is so totally dependent upon the tide, then what ends up happening, is on my days off one week, I have a great, big moving tide, during the day, and fishing is usually good..... if their is a bite to be had.

But the following week, that same great tide rotates around so that it occurs at night, and day fishing usually sucks... like last week.

But here's the real kicker;

So I was talking to a buddy, and told him my fishing last week sucked, and then he tells me that his friend was out in my same waters "at night" (during the good tide) and he stuck a 38" and a 40" Striper ! Fish that length could go about 23 to 30+ lbs, depending on male / female, condition of the fish, etc. But nice fish either way !

Urgggg..... night fishing throws me off so bad. But at least it has been staying warmer {lows only around 60}

So anyway, this next Mon-Tues has the good tides in the day again. Hope to post some full color, trophy Striper shots for you in brilliant sunlight :)

But the following week, I think I am just going to have to do an overnighter. I don't even want to have to run at night, so I'll just get there around 6pm, and fish until at least 6 am. Will bring a pillow and blanket :) Even on a great day / night of Striper fishing, their is always a dead period in the tides somewhere, which will be great for a good long nap :) Thank God my 14ft aluminum doesn't have benches to get in the way :)

Peace,

Fish

Oh, here's a few shots from last week.....

Beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Ive never fished for strippers

Dollar bills and 5's usually catch them. A $20 up in the air is a for sure bite. lol sorry I had to.

Well heck yea'..... Everyone knows that strippers come out at night :) But then chasing strippers is a good way to lose all your $ too ! Beware ! :) LOL

Peace,

Fish

Oh, glad you liked the photos :) ALWAYS have my DSLR camera with me for nature shots..... and my couple of point and shoots for fish photos :)

Your quarry is very nocturnal - I'm betting that if you put the time in, night operations will get you that "Big Fish" you've been looking for.

Night ops were the standard for me for a very long time as I pursued that particular fish up and down the east coast.

My most productive nights and times were new moon (no moon) nights and right at the switch of the tide from slack low to the start on the flood. The bait has to relocate with the current change and is briefly vulnerable to the predator. Also I think the Big Bass are a bit lazy and like to feed more when they don't have to fight a strong current to do so.

Good Luck

A-Jay, I know your right.

I often bring up some of the old timers I know, that used to stick monsters around here, in the 40 to 50lb+ range, and granted, their were a LOT more 40-50lb+ Stripers back then, but even so, most of those giants were caught at night....

Hate to say it, but that's just the facts of the matter.

Need to get me one of those screened face covers.... Mosquitos can be rediculous in these parts, at night....

Peace,

Fish

I move to pretty much all night fishing for catfish during the summer months. I bring a sleeping bag and set my baitfeeders and kick back. Some nights all I catch are Z's, some nights you can't hardly keep up with them. It's pretty much the same deal with big cats during the summer, if you aren't fishing at night you aren't catching the big fish. The skeeters are terrible around here on the river too. I used to just get all the way inside my sleeping bag and close the top over my head. It was pretty brutal on those 80-90 degree nights but it was better than getting eaten alive. Tried bug spray but these skeeters just like that stuff like salt off the rim of a margarita glass before they bite you. Now I have a Thermacell, no need for any headnet or long sleeves with that thing, it's great if you're sitting still.

I fish early morning nearly everday usually start around 4, all my fishing is tidal. I'm not bait kind of guy, I'm walking and casting and looking for signs of fish. I carry a small flashlight around my neck, hardly use it as I fish with 1 or 2 lures, does help to keep the insects away. There is nothing I love more than fishing that time of day, for me not much compares to tarpon jumping in the moonlight in dead silence. I will be doing this as long as I'm physicaly capable.

Really, is that why I have 100,000,000 no-seum bites on me from the other day? hahahaha

Nothing keeps those no seeums away, except an east wind if your at the shore. It's a shame we didn't score, as a rule I love that fast current on the incoming tide for tarpon.
