fishking247 Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 I prefer tackle warehouse. they only sell online but i find they have the best prices and best selection. i only use bass pro and cabelas for waders Quote
11justin22 Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 There is a new me opening here in about two weeks. Super stoked about it. I have been to several onesin the past and always liked them Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted August 16, 2012 Super User Posted August 16, 2012 Cabelas has awesome customer service, I'm lucky enough to have both a BPS and a Cabelas close to where I live so I can go to either of them. BPS has more of a selection but Cabelas has better customer service, the prices are about the same on average as BPS will have 1 item a buck or two cheaper while Cabelas with have another item a buck or two cheaper. I give Cabelas an Edge as they often will have blow out prices on items with too much inventory, I recently got a dozen Xcalibur one knocker lipless cranks for $1.99 each, not bad for a bait that normally runs 7 bucks. As for the actual stores, the Dicks and Gander Moutain I have near me have very little in the way of fishing stuff, and Gander mountain is more expensive than the rest and Dicks has the least amout of tackle but thats in PA as the stores are stocked according to local demographics. Really? Apparently I have worked with the wrong people the 100x they have messed up my orders. I would rank Cabelas right with Xfinity as the least helpful customer service departement I have ever worked with. One example. I order some LC cranks and when I recieved a totally different model and color, I gave them a call. The lady had an attitude with me from the beginning and she went swore I was misreading the model and that they sent the right one...after convincing her that I was correct, she went on to say they dont and have never carried the model I "supposedly" ordered... They lost a lot of business because of this lady, because only God know how much I spend on fishing stuff! Quote

They lost a lot of business because of this lady, because only God know how much I spend on fishing stuff! Living only 5 minutes from the Cabelas in Hamburg Pa I can honestly say it's a toss up dealing with Cabelas. For instance; Where I work I come in contact with a bunch of people in my area as my customers two of them are a very nice couple who both work at Cabelas. We got talking one day about fishing and I told them that I was just up the other day and bought about $150 worth of tackle and other gear. Well I told them that I just discovered the web pricing on a bunch of stuff I had purchased that day and had I ordered online I would've saved over $60. Well they told me to come up the next day after work and the wife, who works at the CS desk gave me the difference back of the items I ordered. I was very thankful and quite suprised about how that was handled. However, I have had a fair share of negative situations arise there too. Especially with the people working there not knowing what I'm looking for, Or what I'm talking about. I understand not everone can know what everything is but come on there's certain things someone working in the fishing department should know. eg. The difference between a regular jig head and a tube jig head. I have to say that dealing with Cabelas overall has been a better excperience than dealing with my local Dick's which is right next to my work. I only go to Dick's when they give me coupons. Their tackel selection is trash and I tend to use the coupons on things like bags, tackle boxes, and non essential items. I'd rather go to Cabelas for the terminal tackle because their selection is outstanding. Overall I'd rather Cabelas. Quote
detroit1 Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 I live within 45 minutes from a BPS, Cabela's,Gander Mt., and 2 Dicks stores. By far, bps has the most and best selection of bassin stuff. Cabelas has maybe 50% less than bps, which is followed closely by gander mt. And I have a better selection than both Dicks put together... Quote
wakeeater Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 i have a bps near me. i like the store & the employees have always been super helpful. my thing is i like supporting locally owned small business. the 2 local shops are awesome. C&C outdoors & edgemore outdoors are more in tune with the local scene. they can and have price matched stuff from tw & bps. on some things they have been cheaper. all i'm saying is give your local tackle shop a shot. more than likely they'll bend over backwards to earn your business or help you with any warranty issues and can probably put you on some fish. btw, i dont own a tackle shop 1 Quote

I've had similar experiences with Cabela's and refuse to shop there any longer. The final straw was last time I went in there to pick up a Veritas rod, not to buy but just feel. What do you know, they had ZERO in stock. Really? Seems like a popular, good selling rod not to have in stock. I live ten minutes from Cabela's and work even closer, but I gladly drive the 45 minutes to the closest BPS. Quote
tritonguy Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 I also try to support my small local bait and tackle shop. Quote
TNBassin' Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 I really like BPS, but Academy Sports has a nice assortment of gear, and they have awesome prices both online and in store. Quote

I try to use Cabelas for somethings and avoid BPS at all costs. A few years back I was getting ready for a spring tourney, the least one until summer and I ordered a Zoom tube kit from BPS, 100 tubes in 4 colors that was perfect well after it didn't show up 2 weeks later I called and was told it was back ordered, well ok. Now this is April, so being that my Tourney was coming up on the weekend I got the tubes from Cabelas, well BPS refunded me my money after I cancelled the order and then in August my credit card statement comes in the mail and I find a charge to BPS for 35 bucks, so I plan on calling them when the UPS truck pulls up and the box I get is from BPS with the tube kit I cancelled. To make the rest of the story short I sent it back and it took them a month to put the money back on to my card, that was the end of them, but I will pick up things in store, just never order online fromt them. jignfule Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Something happened to Cabelas some years ago. When I first started buying from Cabelas the customer service was second to none. I didn't mind paying a higher price sometimes because I knew that the item would be covered if I were not satisfied with it for any reason. But things have changed in the last few years. Their customer service now is about average, now I shop much more by price. I could bore you with specific example, but I won't. Sufficient to say Cabelas is now just an average joe. Quote
Daddyodo Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 i have a BP 10 minutes from my house and a Dicks 5 Minutes away. The customer service at Bass Pro is OUTSTANDING! Never had an issue with returns, always very polite and prompt. Also, the guys at the fishing counter really know their stuff and will go out of their way to help. (shout out to Ron) I will say, I think on alot of items Dicks is cheaper. From terminal tackle to Senkos. ( Bass Pro 5" Senko $8.29 Dicks, $6.99) The selection at Dicks though is no where near that of BP. And most of the staff is clueless about fishing. Wish we had a little ma and pa tackle shop to go to. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted August 18, 2012 Super User Posted August 18, 2012 I am about 10 minutes from BPS and 15 minutes from Cabelas. I like BPS much better. They always seem to have more fishing items in stock than Cabelas does. Quote

That would be the economic turndown. Before they were top notch, now they dropped the ball by not keeping the shelves stocked on items that are hot or how they dropped their lifetime warranties, even their in-house service. I can't walk around that store without being asked about getting their credit card less than 3 times. I admit though it's lesser of all evils when it comes to box stores Quote
