Brand New In The Box. ( Not So Smooth )

Well today my revo winch showed up from TW and I opened it up tried to reel it. And reeli it I did. But it doesnt feel near as smooth as my revo s or my sx. Those two reels have never needed lube yet. Do they not lube all the reels the same from the factory?

What is the best lube for these reels?

Anyone else have a rough reelin winch?

If it's brand new, ride it like you stole it for a couple weeks to make sure everything works. Then tear it down for a complete clean and lube. I've seen a lot of new reels with way too much grease in them, or not enough, over-lubed and under-lubed bearings, dry drags, etc.

And no, they do not lube all reels the same at the factory. It seems to be a very hit or miss process.

My personal process is to spool up a new reel, or a used reel that's new to me, cast it a few times in the back yard, then tear it down. I wnat mine clean and properly lubed right from the start. But, I've heard my original statement (ride it like you stole it) from more than one professional reel tech, so that's my advice to you.

Asking what is the best lube is a good way to start an argument. Or at least a spirited discussion.

Shimano grease for drags washers and gears.

Ardent reel butter oil for everything else.

These two readily available products will serve you well.

I bought a Winch from TW during the fourth of July sale and it is super smooth. It's my second Winch and I would say they are smoother than my Sx's. I was throwing 6 inch hudds with it yesterday and I could barely feel the bait at the end of my line. Depending on how rough yours feels I would probably just exchange it for another...

Smooth is a subjective term so the user needs to determine if there may be a problem. If there is an obvious problem right out of the box by all means swap it out. Other wise proceed as ghoti suggested and fish the reel for a bit and service/have it serviced.
