Rod Covers?

I have a 60 dollar giftcard to tw and I don't really need anything in particular. However, I do need rod covers and I was wondering which ones you guys like/use? The rod glove seem like the popular brand.

I use the plastic mesh kind, but I don't have a particular preference brandwise. They're the same to me.

I use Stick Jackets. I guess they are the same as the ones BASSclary uses - kinda like Chinese handcuffs. They work great but a word of warning. If you ever get a hook caught in one of them, they can be a real P.I.T.A to remove.

btw BASSclary my second Powell endurance came in the mail. TW replaced the first no questions asked. This new one has a crack where the guide meets the rod and when you press on the guide the crack widens (I didn't even get to use this rod!!!). I'm calling Powell tomorrow.. I really like these rods but Im wondering why I have received two with defects at the resin over the guides.

I have the Rod Glove Casting Pro. It's made out of a nice neoprene and does protect the rod well. Only negative is that it is heavy and can really weigh on the tip of a pole. I probably wouldn't recommend it unless you have a stiff fishing pole. Would probably recommend the standard rod glove instead.

I've never had an issue with the rods, perhaps just a bad batch got out. Happens to all manufacturers eventually. Im sure Powell will correct it if you give them a call.

This doesnt help for the brand, but I use the nylon mesh ones that Bass Pro sells. No problems with them. If you do get a hook caught in them, its not that bad to get out, you just have to see how its in there, and carefully get it out. Also, the hook wont damage it due to the thickness. I have them for all my rods, and they are pretty tough.

i think i have 3 different brands, whatever wal mart sells, whatever bass pro sells and whatever tackle warehouse sells. They all are the same to me. If you spend over $100 at tackle warehouse you will get a reel cover for $2.99. I highly suggest you get it if you dont have any reel covers. There reel covers are much much better than bass pros. They go on much easier and are of better quality.

I use the Bass Pro ones, no complaints. If I stored my rods in my boat, I'd probably use rod socks myself just because they're slimmer but I have a short boat and my rods don't fit in the locker so I just remove them when not using it.

The mesh kind is what I have and is some of the best money I have spent in a long time! It makes putting rods in and taking them out of the lockers in a boat so much easier! They also are great if you are taking a bunch of rods on someone else's boat. Buy them you will not be disappointed!

I was wondering if anyone uses their rod gloves on micro guided rods such as the duckett micro magic. I have one of these in a 7ft M and I am wondering if the 2 dollars extra is necessary or I can get away with just a standard rod glove.

Well, I'm the "same"... I float-tube and use rod covers for car-travel too!! If you rig-up the night before (or before transport), how do you secure the line? Hook? Snap? Loose line? I ask because I like the mesh kind the best... but they WILL snag/catch on hooks/lures and snaps.

Since I'm not concerned with "space" (like in a boat's rod locker) I've even tried the foam pipe insulation you can get at the local "box" home/hardware stores. It's CHEAP - like ~ $1.00/stick. It works on some rods, but not every one/kind - especially if your rods have bigger eyes or is a spinning rod.

I've found a good compromise in using the "cloth" or ripstop nylon type covers that you can find on eBay. I try to not have any hooks on my pre-rigged rods for transport, but do have "snaps" tied on most. The snaps won't catch on the cloth covers. If I DO leave on the hook (i.e. plastics), then I try to hook the hook on the reel seat or on one of the "cross-bars" (baitcasting reel). Then it won't snag/catch on the cloth style covers (of course, doing that won't cause the mesh-type covers to snag either).

One advantage of the cloth covers - price. I just bought SIX covers for $18 or only $3 each!

I transport my rods the same way. Only my mesh covers sit in a box now b/c its too difficult to carry 5 rods in one hand with the covers on them. The rods slip 12" out of the covers and its a mess by the time I walk up my 3rd floor apt. So now I'm back to being careful sliding/loading them in my rod tube. (I only put my baitcasters in the tube now and leave the spinning out=much easier). The micro guides do poke thru the standard mesh. Not a big deal but if there is an option I would spend the $2 extra so they don't---after all you've already spent $6

I use the BP covers as well and really like them. I wish they covered from tip to reel though, but for the price you can't beat'em.
