Buying A Frog Rod Any Suggestions?

I need a rod for my curado 51 e want to get a rod for frogging. I like my st croix for worms. Is the st croix frog rod any good I hear some reviews saying the mh fast that I use for spinners is a better frog rod then the actual frog rod. I'm trying to avoid paying $200. I also have another reel filled with 30# braid pp will they get me buy in Lilly pads? That's we're I'll be fishing the frogs hate to buy more if the 30 will do or at least get me by I just got it. I prefer to buy on eBay as well if anyone here even has just a frog rod for sale and willing to put on eBay I'm interested for a good deal. I only use PayPal with bill me later

A 51E isnt the best choice of a reel to use for frogging, the 200E7 would be a better choice, but if you are going to use it, spool it with at least 40# braid, and look into the Sellus Flipping rod, its a great deal for $70, and its very strong.

If building a frog rod I'd use a light salt water blank. It'll have plenty of backbone with a little softer tip to help with long casts back into the weeds.

I use PP 50# braid for froggin' in lilly pads all the time. My rod is a 7' H Veritas with a PQ 7.1:1 reel.

Still haven't met a lilly pad that can stand up to this combo.

Exactly, I don't why every one wants a broom stick tip to butt for a frog rod. Even winching them out of heavy slop I find rods like that unacceptable. I have yet to find a frog rod labled as a frod rod that I would use. The best two I have found have been Kistlers H powered Magnisum "Jig and Toad", but it fishes frogs no better than the 7' MH Lightning Rod Shock, so the Kistler is gone, and I frog with the cheap rod. I am a big St Croix fan, but they don't make a frog rod worth a hoot.....IMHO

I find it much easier to walk a frog with a rod that has a F or XF action, especially on long casts. Guess it just comes down to personal preference.

I guess so, because I find just the opposite, the stiffer the rod, the harder I seem to have to work to walk a frog.

7 to 7'6 MH/ fast action for me. Nice tip for chucking an array of frogs. Good backbone for the thick stuff. Fast tip will allow the effectiveness of the open water froggin. Its what works for me

any medium heavy or heavy rod will do. what is most important to me is having the righ tip action. i like a fast action with plenty of backbone to pull the fish out of the cover

I had given some thought about buying a new rod, looking around a bit I decided just to use one of my inshore rods, for me was a good decision. I'm using either a med 8/17 or mh 10/20 spinning in 7' length, with a rear butt on the short side.

i fish strictly spinning tackle (never really liked the feel of a baitcaster). my goto frog rod is the 7'2" MH shimano crucial "worm and jig" rod with 30lb power pro. i find it to be the perfect rod for the areas i frog fish...most of the time. if i am frog fishing super heavy cover i will use an inshore rod like sirsnookalot suggests. i use my 7' MH 10-20lb st. croix tidemaster with 40 or 50lb power pro with a 4000 sized reel.

with a spinning rod you may not have as much power as a baitcaster but you can skip that frog under trees a lot easier. most of the time i bank or wade fish and fish some pretty tight areas where i would not even attempt to use a baitcaster

My frog rod is a Quantum Superlite PT 7'11" H/F casting rod but I have also used my 7' MH/F Field & Stream Tec Spec with good results. The Superlite was purchased off ebay for $75 and that same store now has them for $87 total with the shipping cost.

I use a Medium Heavy with a fast tip as well. I don't fish anything more powerful than MH for freshwater. I like the fast tip because it makes up for the lack of stretch the braid has, and I'm usually a little quick on my hook sets.
