Zoff Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 I was talking with another member and though (although I am pretty sure this is not an original concept ) it would be great to have a bunch of us meet at Smith Mountain Lake for a day. For a non-boater, I'd be willing to share my boat for the day and would hope others would do the same. The best place to meet as far as parking and the like would be the state park although I prefer Penhook. This would not be limited to Virginia anglers and all would be welcome. Thoughts????? Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 11, 2012 Super User Posted August 11, 2012 Great place to fish but a little too far to tow the boat from Richmond for a one day trip. Also, too may jet skiis and skiers and pontoon boats and swimmers and fish&fun boats on SML until school opens so if you are going to have an event maybe October would be better. Quote
Zoff Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 SML was just a thought. Would love to consider other places more central. Suggestions? Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 11, 2012 Super User Posted August 11, 2012 Zoff, here is the problem as I see it. We have guys from all over the state with all types of boats and nonboaters. For you and the guys in the western part of the state SML is a great option, as is Claytor. For us in the east and DC areas there are many rivers and good ole One Fish Anna. All I can suggest is to try getting a get together for SML and see who shows up. Quote
Zoff Posted August 12, 2012 Author Posted August 12, 2012 Shoot guys... I'd come to Anna. It would be worth it to fish the first time. Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 12, 2012 Super User Posted August 12, 2012 OK, let's give it a try. You want to pick a date and make a post on the Forum with the invite? Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted August 13, 2012 Super User Posted August 13, 2012 I might be up for either. Zoff, I still have not had a chance to get my trolling motor replaced but I would be happy to fish with you, I would however like to be able to get mine repaired before we go so that we could offer more non-boaters a seat, I will say that Anna is going to be much like SML this time of year with all the pleasure boaters and jet ski's, especially on the weekends, I would suggest the same as Sam, if we wait until school starts again it will be a lot more fun and a good bit safer for all. Either lake is ok, I am about 3 hrs to you and about 1:45 to Anna. For all who are interested in Zoff's idea how far from Anna is everyone? Quote
Broke bass fisherman Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 As a non-boater and someone who is still pretty new to Va I would love this. Hope this works out for us all. Quote

Broke bass fisherman Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Depending on the date and my schedule I would be willing to make a trip to Anna as long as I could afford it. Naturally SML, and Claytor are high on my list but that's just cause I live on this side. Just want to fish. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted August 13, 2012 Super User Posted August 13, 2012 The trip itself is what will cost you the most I assume, there is a 8 or 10 dollar parking pass you will need, it may be less for just a parking permit, since you won't have a boat. Quote
Zoff Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 I am in for any lake. Anna sounds good but I just want to fish and meet some fellow anglers. I have spoken with Nitrofreak about fishing together and I have fished with HokieBass so I know it will be great. I'd be up for it and would be grateful to have a co-angler/non-boater with me. I say we have pick a definite place, then have a signup sheet and go from there. See how many boaters/non-boaters we have wanting to come. Any idea on how to pair up? Just pick who you want? Lottery/drawing? Huh? Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted August 13, 2012 Super User Posted August 13, 2012 Well, we may have to go in pairs or there may be a couple of boats with three on board it depends on how many we get that wants to go. I would like to suggest mid Sept, the weather is usually a little cooler and not as windy as October can be, the big boats are all but gone, that way it will be safer for the ones that only have jon boats, if that will work for everybody, and if Anna is ok with everybody too. Zoff Posted August 13, 2012 Author Posted August 13, 2012 My suggestion would be the same... Sept to early (no later than 1st weekend) Oct. Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted August 13, 2012 Super User Posted August 13, 2012 Weekend of the 15th and 16th or 22nd and 23rd Quote
Broke bass fisherman Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Weekend of the 15th and 16th or 22nd and 23rd Think either of those would work. Wouldn't mind looking into some carpooling to help with cost. Can't tell you all how excited I am about this, Would love to get on a lake and learn whatever I can from whoever I can. Quote
