Black is the general color that will get suggested. Jigs, big worms, spinnerbaits seem to be the best producers but many other lures will work. Noisy top waters are also popular

Get a black Jitterbug!!! Those things work wonders!!

Also bring bug spray and a flashlight or a headlamp. I would only use the light source when needed as the bugs will flock to you like white on rice and a glass of milk on a paper plate in a snow storm. I found this out the hard way after being swarmed every time I turned the lights on. There should be enough natural light out also.

Enjoy the night fishing.

Do they sleep at night like my gold fish do?

No Sir, they are very active at night time hunting in the shallows for bait fish, worms, and other creatures. I fished saturday night and they were all around me slaming the top water for whatever was unlucky enough to be near the surface. I think they find some time to rest whenever them get tired.

As stated previously, you can't go wrong with a black jitterbug. I also love to fish a black/blue buzzbait at night.

Thank you, BasHunter_Hunt. So Bass are more like my cats than goldfish :)

The last time I tried to fish at night was when I was a boy. Near by lakes are mostly no night fishing lakes, but I should try once.

I think bass rest when they are laying on the bottom waiting to ambush prey. That could be their time to rest/sleep while keeping an eye out for food.

Everyone is going to say the usual, topwaters, buzzbaits, poppers, jitterbugs, frogs, jigs, cranks, spinners yada yada. Good luck man, ive been out night fishing 3 times this year and got skuned everytime. I just cant catch fish at night for some reason.

I know this is gonna sound really weird, and maybe it's just the lake I fish, but this guy next to me caught a nice 2-3 lber on hot dogs. Yes hot dogs. It was maybe about 30-40 minutes after the sun went down he set up three poles all with hot dogs and the bass came by and slammed it about 10 minutes later.

I never would have believed him if I didn't see it myself. The thing though is it's pretty much cast and wait. Too boring for me but the guy caught it.

So I guess when all else fails and you have an extra pole maybe throw on a hot dog. :Idontknow:

Some local fisherman mentioned that he used hotdog, I thought he meant he used a lure called hotdog from Damiki. http://www.histackle...miki-hotdog.htm

But maybe he meant one from grocery store. He even mentioned about dipping in ketchup, now all started to make sense.

I would use a Ballpark hot dog or Boar's Head Brand, use the bun length dog at night for the larger profile...the regular one is more of a finesse dog...which you can rig wacky style or on a drop shot... ;)

When all else fails I'm going to fish an Oscar Meyer Texas style. Now I'll have to find the right sized hook to fit the dog and that's where the challenge really comes in. :punishment:

black jitterbug, black buzzbait. I seem to better with a really slow, steady retrieve with both. I have better results with the jitterbug.

I have also been having some success with black or black/red spinnerbaits.

This. Black is my go to color at night time, as it provides the most visible silhouette. Big worms with tails that move a lot of water like a kriet tail worm worm amazingly well. I have a ton of success at night buy using a black neon yum f2 ribbon tail on a shakey head.

they go to clubs under water like in the movies so they are awake

I just had a great night of fishing last night from 7-10:30. It was a New Moon Phase which has ALWAYS been the most productive for me. I was throwing a Rage Tail Shad for a topwater and a 5" tube to work the bottom. It was my first time using the shad and it got me the biggest fish of the night that exploded right at my feet and scared the bejesus outa me! lol

I think that vibration and sound are MUCH more important at night than color is. Light must bounce off the lure to allow us/fish to see color. Without light all lures will just be a greyish or black color.
