Super User Bankbeater Posted August 10, 2012 Super User Posted August 10, 2012 Wed. night during the thunderstorm our computer got fried by lightning strike. Lost the PC, monitor, modem, and surge protector. Went up yesterday and ordered a low end gaming computer that should be ready toward the end of next week. I will have to get on BR from work for a while. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted August 10, 2012 Super User Posted August 10, 2012 Sorry to hear about all the things fried by lightening. One thing I had added when we had an electrician at our house was a whole house surge. Did not cost much at all for some added protection. Quote

I got struck by lightning a year ago and the strike hit a large oak in our yard then traveled into my aluminum shed then through an extension cord the went from the shed to the back porch and then proceeded to fry lots of electronics in the house. One of the whole house units offered by the power company would have done nothing to stop my surge. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted August 10, 2012 Super User Posted August 10, 2012 Yes its on the main feed into the house. Quote
