chatter bait replacing spinner bait?

On the last few outings i noticed that in places i would normally throw a spinner bait i instead thew a chatter bait. I guess it was and unconscious choice at first but i must say that i like chatter baits better. I think i just like the action better and have more confidence with it. Any body else out there put down the spinner baits and pick up the chatter bait instead?

Ive never thrown a Chatterbait,but Last year I stocked up on Spinnerbaits and while I didnt catch any monster Fish,I did alright I suppose. I was able to catch and release my fair share so I have confidence in a Spinnerbait.

I have been hearing about Chatterbaits and been reading alot of mixed reviews. Some say they are absolutely great baits and catch lots of fish,and others say they are just junk.I wont know truely until I try one out and force myself to fish it.

i have found this to be my fav. of these types of baits. i dont think itll replace a spinnerbait for me though as i throw them in completely different situations.

im not pulling a chatterbait through bushes and grass mats.....

On the pure poisen, I like to sharpen the hooks a tad with my diamond pad..they seem to dull up, so make sure ya keep em sharp..

I would never ever substitute a chatterbait for a spinnerbait.  In areas where I can't throw a spinnerbait or I want a soft, quiet presentation I throw swim jigs.

In 2008, I fell in love with spinnerbaits. Then I got the Chatterfrog and tried it. Gradually the spinnerbaits took a back seat to the Chatterfrog. The Chatterfrog definitely outfished the spinnerbaits. Maybe it had to do with a change of season, or fish preference.

Because.......in 2009, I started fishing in March with jigs, learned how to use them and became a jig man. I'd try the spinnerbait and Chatterfrog, but they did not produce like the jigs. Even as the season warmed they did not.

When the jig fishing began to die out, I found the Rage Tail products, primarily the Space Monkey and the Craw took over where the jigs left off.

Tried spinnerbaits and Chatterfrogs of and on through this transition, with disappointing results.

From Rage Tails to wacky wormin' and then to drop shotting in August. Again, forays with the previous years "killers" were disappointing.

Different year, different conditions, different things that I'm not aware of made the fish want different baits and different presentations.

Who knows, maybe this year the spinnerbaits and Chatterfrogs will be what they want.

When I lobstered, there were times the lobsters wanted flatfish racks hung on bait strings, other times they wanted it in bait bags. Yet other times they preferred skates, or cod napes, or pogies. What they wanted, and how they wanted it placed in the trap made a difference.

Why that should be, since lobsters locate their food primarily by scent, I have no clue. There were times when everything worked equally well.

I've got "big plans" for this coming year. Jigs early, Rage Tail plastics in the lily pad beds when they start to appear beneath the surface, followed by worms, then shaky head and drop shotting. Thats based on last year.

I love chatterbaits when I want a slower, higher vibration bait, and I love throwing them around wood and grass, BUT they will never take the place of my spinnerbaits.  I'm a spinnerbait junkie!

Like all the lures I use regularly, chatterbaits have their time and place, but for me the times and places for my spinnerbaits just come up a little more often.  ;D

At one time, where I'm from, you could throw a spinner bait in a form of the right color (whites/silvers, with silver blades) and catch bass until you were sick of it. Basically all year long.

Those days, at least here, are LONG gone. Can you catch fish on spinnerbaits? Ya. But there are more productive options, any given time of year.

When the original Chatterbait craze started shortly after being marketed due to several tournaments early in the year in Florida being won using them, they became scarce. Some were being sold for $75-$100 each due to the panic buying that was going on. Sometime after that, Rick Morris claimed second place after leading the Bassmaster Classic using it on the Kissimmee chain of lakes. I had a dozen of them during that shortage period and mailed some to a few tournament anglers that were looking in desperation for a source via internet.

A year or so after all that, the company was sold, they were copied by several lure mfg. and the rest is history.

No airborne_angler, the craze was because everbody wanted them and there was not enough available for everybody that wanted them. The mfg could not keep up with the demand.

During that period there was a lot of activity on the net about how to make the blades so anglers could make their own knock-offs and have one like it.

note: I did not sell mine, I gave them away and paid for the shipping. I only kept two for my use. That was before I started having a lot of success with them.

Well I can say I don't have much confidence in either.  I can't seem to catch any on a spinnerbait and I tried the chatter bait several times and no luck there either. 

It's safe to say at least for me they both aren't my strong suit.  But there is way to many fisherman out there who can work magic with a spinner bait for it to ever be replaced JMO

Try burning them sometime..Also you can swim them like a jig, bounce them ..IF you don't have weeds, or timber.. ;D

Each bait has it's place. I'm gonna make a bold statement, some may not agree, but, I find that a spinnerbait a bit more of a reaction bait than a chatterbait. Opinions..?
