DON1937 Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Is the oil used in lawn mowers/trimmers correct for use in a 2 cycle outboard motor? Is it worthwhile to use Sea Foam? TIA Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted August 9, 2012 Super User Posted August 9, 2012 No, you should use an outboard motor oil rated TCW-3 Yes, use Seafoam all the time- 1 oz per gallon of gas. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted August 9, 2012 Super User Posted August 9, 2012 No, you should use an outboard motor oil rated TCW-3 Yes, use Seafoam all the time- 1 oz per gallon of gas. X2 There are also different types of outboard oil. Petroleum based(least expensive) Petroleum/Synthetic(mid range) Full synthetic(most expensive). I use either the petroleum or half and half depending on whats on sale. Either Penzoil, Wally world brand, Cabelas brand or BPS brand. The Quicksilver oil is a little pricier than the ones I've mentioned. As far as I can tell I haven't experienced any ill effects in the last 9 years in my Merc. using the non Merc products. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted August 9, 2012 Super User Posted August 9, 2012 Do not use the oil for air cooled 2 cycles in a water cooled engine and don't use the oil for water cooled engines in air cooled engines. Totally different temp ranges the oils are designed operate in. Quote
