soccplayer07 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Hello all. What hooks do you use for the following baits? Please include what size weight if weighted. Thanks SK shadalicius 5.5" Basstrix 5" Quote
midnighthrasher Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Owner weighted beast.... Tried a couple different ones but these are the best. Quote
soccplayer07 Posted February 1, 2010 Author Posted February 1, 2010 for which one and what weight? Quote
midnighthrasher Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I use the 4/0 1/8oz ones. I like reeling them slowly and this works well. They also make them in a 6/0 , 8/0 and a 10/0. Next time i buy some im gonna try the 6/0. Try a little heavier, see how i like them. Quote
A-Rob Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I think I got a VMC 5/0 hook EWG with a 3/16oz (1/8oz if not) weight on it, works great for shallow water. The speed of the retrieve and the weight balance each other out for a shallow run. Quote
soccplayer07 Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 for which bait??? the SK is much thicker. Quote
A-Rob Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Ohh! I got a smaller swimbait, but a wicked hook for it if you can upsize the hook. It's by Eagle Claw. It has a spear on it with barbs for the lure keeper, so it slides right in and stays in, always straight never twisted. Then it has a weight on the hook as well. It makes rigging way easier and straight everytime Quote
s13john Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 i really like these http://www.***.com/descpage-OWBWT.html For smaller ones id say 5in or smaller(and super flukes) http://www.***.com/descpage-GSEGW.html if you want a screw lock. althought i found that if your using braid and get those dig in backlashes you pretty much rip a good part of the nose out( keep some glue handy) but they seem to give a better action cause theirs only on point that holds the bait in place. http://www.***.com/descpage-GSSL.html and i really want to try these http://www.***.com/descpage.html?pcode=OFSCP the blade probably acts as a good keel i mostly have used sk shadalicious, matt minnow, reacton strike ??, netbait bk. really want to try the swimming fluke Quote
soccplayer07 Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 your links show all sizes TW sales. Which size for the sk? Quote
s13john Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 sorry for upside down the last one is a 6/0 1/4ounce i think a lil heavier weight makes it have a better keel effect. still it depends on what they want that day Quote
Revo_Carrot Stix Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I've only fished hollow-belly type swimbaits for less than a year and I've experimented a lot. For 5.5-7" baits like Shadilicious - I'd go with 6/0 with 1/8 or 3/16 ou depending on the depth and retrieve speed. Smaller swimbaits in the 3.5-5" I would use 5/0 3/16-1/4 ou. I prefer Gamakatsu weighted EWG's. http://www.***.com/descpage-GWMH.html Towards the end of last season, I switched to braid and increased my hookups significantly. Some experts also recommend splitting the bellies. Quote
LHC - Bank Robber Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 I like Genesis, in 4/0 for basstrix. Quote
skeeteroneal Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Falcon superline hook 6/0 1/4oz and add one of those nose keepers. Tried the lake fork hooks but the wire keepers are too flimsy. Fish destoryed them. Quote
