ipeeinmywetsuit Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Anyone thinking about purchasing one of these? I have a 7' M micro magic and I love it. These have the ultra micro guides and no taper/line/lure cap listed either. Quote
tallen316 Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I have talked to a local shop owner and others and they can't justify the $50 more ( not sure exactly the $$ difference )for the white ice. If you like a rod with a cork handle these have a foam grip. I held a 7'3" mh casting in both rods and I couldn't tell a weight difference. I love my micro magic and would purchase another one without a doubt. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted August 9, 2012 Super User Posted August 9, 2012 Ive searched a bit and came up empty on any further info. Like what are the blanks made of, guide inserts, weight. There is one video that claims 40% more sensitive cause the guides are closer to the blank. http://www.worldfishingnetwork.com/videos/channels/getting-school-d-with-jp-derose/ducketts-white-ice-fishing-rods-230621.aspx Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted August 9, 2012 Super User Posted August 9, 2012 My advise would be to wait until they have been out for a few months and then look for reviews. The reason is these rods were due out last year after ICAST but ended up being totally redesigned and in a strange coincidence the micro magic was a little behind in its release and when the first wave hit there was a ton of breakage issues with them. Now after 2 years it seems they fixed the breakage issue with the micro magic but the way this white ice has gone through design changes I think you would be better off waiting a bit. Quote
Lataman Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Looks like I'll be holding off on the white ice. I do love my magic though! Thanks for the info smalljaw. Quote
21farms Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 i'm totally with smalljaw. the super long gestation period is a serious red flag to me. that and the significant redesign of the rear of the handles makes me wonder. at some point, i'll probably pick up a duckett rod. still, i wasn't at all thrilled with the way boyd duckett threw e21 under the bus when he started his own rod company...that was not cool. MT2 Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Arnt the White Ice rods technic specific designed by his pro staff pals? I listened to Duckett on *** radio a week or so ago and he discussed them briefly saying that it took Scroggins almost a year to get all the kinks out of the flipping stick he was helping with. Quote

Yeah on tackle warehouse each rod has a pro's name and what it's meant for written underneath. Seems pretty straight forward though. Quote
