GoneFishi'n Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I have a 7'0" CarbonLite Medium action. I know that a MH is better for frogging but is this alright? And I was thinking of putting 40 pound braid on is that enough? Quote
kylek Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I think you would be ok unless fishing some super heavy stuff, then the MH or H would be a better choice. Also you may want to up the line weight especially the thicker slop you are fishing. I use a 7' MH with 50lb braid, but I dont fish frogs alot. Quote
Diggy Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I have used that same rod with 40lb braid with no problems for that application, plus it allowed me to use it for other things as well. I did eventually change it for a m/h tho,the m/h felt way more solid, less noodley, but it will work. I landed a 36 inch snakehead on the medium and plenty of bass in weeds. Id probably use that rod for something better tho and if money allows buy an inexpensive mh to h rod for this or see if bass pro will allow you to exchange it. Quote
GoneFishi'n Posted August 9, 2012 Author Posted August 9, 2012 Only reason I would be frogging is because I am going down to the Okefenokee Swamp in the fall, so I will be frogging the whole time since there are Lilly pads all over on the right side. Quote
Diggy Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Itll work... if you dont want to spend a dime Quote
GoneFishi'n Posted August 9, 2012 Author Posted August 9, 2012 Ok, thank you very much for helping me out. I can't wait till I go. I also found this like like 2 minutes away with lilly pads all over to haha, i'm going to go probably every day. Can't wait till that first frog catch. Will post pictures when I catch one. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted August 9, 2012 Super User Posted August 9, 2012 The medium will work, a Mh will give you a liitle bit more backbone on those hard hooksets. I used to use a MH carbonlite for frogging caught a lot bass on it until I upgraded. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted August 9, 2012 Super User Posted August 9, 2012 I have a 7'0" CarbonLite Medium action. I know that a MH is better for frogging but is this alright? And I was thinking of putting 40 pound braid on is that enough? It will work but it will probably be far from ideal. I normally frog Hydrilla? mats and not pads but I use a 7'6''EH rod on 50# braid. GoneFishi'n Posted August 9, 2012 Author Posted August 9, 2012 So frogs aren't good on lilly pads? I thought that's where they go? Quote
kylek Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 So frogs aren't good on lilly pads? I thought that's where they go? Frogs are great on pads. I like to hop/twitch mine on top of the pads and then stop in the holes. Makes for a very awesome bite. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted August 9, 2012 Super User Posted August 9, 2012 Frogs are for Lilly pads. I just don't have Lilly pads on the lake I like to fish. I have thick grass mats that cover the surface like the pads cover the lake you fish. It may be easier for you to drag a fish through your pads than me to drag through the slop I have to drag a fish through. Quote
bassinbrian Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 So frogs aren't good on lilly pads? I thought that's where they go? Bass love frogs in Lilly pads Quote
