hey... last year i caught this fish, it was just over 5 pounds, and a bit short of 20":

and this saturday, on the same lake, and maybe 150 yards from that place, i caught this one, 5.5 pounds, 20 1/2 pounds....

however, on the pics, it seems to me as if the second was was smaller... both were measured and weighted with the same scale....

also, why does the first one shows such a little tail, while the second one doesnt?? it looks as if the first one is really fat, and the second one is not as fat, but, on my scale, it weighted a bit more... are they different species??

thanx!!

A lot of bass vary in things like colour, length, and other things depending on were they live. I know I have fished lakes were all the bass were short and fat, or caught fish that were far more colourful in deeper water than bass I have caught in shallow water. Could have something to do with that, idk about catching them on the same lake though

well yes, those are different bass, but i thoght they were going to be more similar between one and the other.... these are the only "big" bass i have caught, the rest of them varying from 1 to 3 pounds....

this sunday, maybe 3 casts after i caught the bass on the second pic, my friend caught this one, and it looks similar to mine... it was a little smaller, but it has the same general shape, not the weird shape of the one in the first pic, with the really small tale compared to the body....

and yes, these were caught not only in the same lake, but within 150 yards from eachother... the first one came on shallower water, the other 2 came from deeper water....

The tail fin on the first fish looks small because the fish isnt fully fanning it out. Simple as that.

Also, the way you're holding the fish by the gill is pushing its head closer to the camera lense than the tail fin, giving the illusion that the tail is much smaller compared to its head. You also have it held at angle, and the tail isn't perpindicular to the lense, making it look even smaller. Hold them by the lip and the fish will hang straight and look more proportional for a picture.

They all look like normal largemouth to me. Anyway, nice fish.

The tails may not be as different as you think. In the first photo it may just not be fanned out as much as it can be, and/or has sustained damage though out its life time. But bass, just like humans dont have to grow symmetrical to one another and can show different traits. But thats just my thinking I could be wrong haha

ok, thanx!! after i took the first fish and noticed the pics werent that great, i noticed most of the big fish are either held by the lip, of with both hands for the pics... thats why we held the other 2 fish with both hands, i think they look better that way... hopefully i will be able to get one as big sometime soon, and ill try holding him just by the lip...

I'm the human version of the first bass. I wear XL helmet (motorcyle and ski). :)

I personally never hold the fish by gill cause I do not want to hurt the gill. ( Bleeding from gill is deadly.)
