fishingkidPA Posted August 7, 2012 Posted August 7, 2012 Here is a new potential world record black bear taken in PA. 23 9/16" skull. Pretty crazy that PA has such big bears. I guess it makes sense because we have a 3 day season for them, no baiting, and no hounds aloud. Every year i go to the check in stations and see a lot of 500+ lb bears. 700lber's are taken yearly too. its just hard to believe that this bear scores bigger than any black bear in Alaska, where i thought the world record would come out of. http://www.outdoorlife.com/photos/gallery/hunting/2012/06/new-potential-world-record-black-bear-shot-pennsylvania Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted August 8, 2012 Super User Posted August 8, 2012 Thats a big bear, but the photo looks dated. When was this? Is it current? Jeff Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 9, 2012 Global Moderator Posted August 9, 2012 Wow that's a monster. I have a slightly excessive fear of bears. Not that it isn't a little justified since they can obviously be dangerous, just not sure I could get myself to go hunting anymore if I lived where there was lots of bears. Quote
fishingkidPA Posted August 10, 2012 Author Posted August 10, 2012 Wow that's a monster. I have a slightly excessive fear of bears. Not that it isn't a little justified since they can obviously be dangerous, just not sure I could get myself to go hunting anymore if I lived where there was lots of bears. There are soo many bearrs in PA, yet they are like ghosts! i go hunting up in the mountains probably a week a year, and i've been hunting for 4 years and have only seen one in the woods. I was stepping over a brush pile and about a hundred pounder ran out from under my foot and over the mountain. They are so scared of humans. The only time they aren't is when they've become so comfortable with them from feeding out of dumpsters etc. My dad got in a sticky situation once the last day of bear about 10 years ago. i believe he was scouting for the upcoming rifle season for deer. All he had was his camera. He hears some crunching behind him and looks over his shoulder to see about a 350 lb bear staring at him about 20 yards away, give or take. He had him camera in one hand trying to record it and jingling his car keys in the other trying to make himself look bigger than the bear, so it would run off. After about 5 seconds of him doing that it walked away, and he forgot to hit the record button!!! that sure would have been cool to get on tape. Quote
Paul s Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 I saw a MONSTER black bear driving to work one morning with my boss in pike county in nepa it was every bit of 8 1/2 foot and atleast 800 pounds Quote
Nelson Wormefeller Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 holy canolie those are some huge bears. the only time i saw a bear, i was fishing from my kayak and locked eyes with the bear about 20 feet on shore. I will admit, I was really scared because i was just sitting there floating and happed to look up and was eye level with the thing. Quote
gettin bent Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 That PA bear is a smasher. I have this one on trail cam for years None of my clients have been able to harvest it. Our district biologist figures it will exceed well over 800 lbs and will be potential new world record if harvested. Thats a 65 gallon drum behind it mounted 10 high off the ground!!! His nick name is Barrel Crusher cause he use to flatten the top of the steel drum shut so other bears would eat his food. Smart old bear. Quote
Djf3864 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Looking to do a bear hunt next year, mostly been hunting hogs and coyotes. Never seen a bear in the wild so looking forward to that. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted September 5, 2014 Super User Posted September 5, 2014 that is a huge bear....i have had a few run ins with bears here in VA but the only time i was scared was when I was about 4 miles up a creek fishing for brookies and i see a mama and her two cubs....was really cool to see but i about crapped my pants too. I know how they can be with cubs. all the other ones i have seen pretty much take off when they see you. Quote
