Lights To Attract Bass And Baitfish To Dock

Guys, I built a 10 foot wide by 12 foot long stationary dock on my 8 acre pond. Now I’m wanting to put some lights around it to attract fish. My plan is to attract them in two ways. First, I would like enough light to penetrate the water and attract them that way since fish like light (as far as I know anyways). Second, I would like the light to attract bugs. As the bugs fall to the water that should also attract fish.

With this in mind, what lights do you suggest I use.

I was thinking about low voltage LED lights but I heard they don’t attract bugs. Is that true? What about something like this…

I would think almost any light would attract bugs, baitfish and bass. It seems that the 25 - watt florescent bulbs a few feet above the surface work the best around my dad's pier.

I believe some piers will do better than others due to the location. He has one pier on the edge of a channel point and one in shallow water with only brush tops to hold the fish. (The channel point pier is where the best fishing is.)

You can also try some green florescent submerged lights. They work great.

i put a 400 watt mh by my dock on the pond. i have it on a post 12 foot in the air. those lights would work fine. ive heard leds dont attract bugs but i know from first hand that isnt true. . i work in a electrical store and a rep told us that. bought some landscape lights and corner floods and every one of them are covered in bugs at night. had many customers buy those for bowfishing and was told the same. you could also look into some CPF lights. how many do you plan on putting up?

I don't think bass are directly attracted to light. Lights attract bugs, which attracts bait, which attracts predators, bass one of them.

J Franco is right regarding the way that lights effect fishing. As far as white LEDs not attracting bugs, turn on an LED headlamp when you're night fishing and watch what happens. The red ones attract far less...

We got a smaller one and it does attract a lot of baitfish. The company suggests making any fishing lamp permanent to be effective. Every ten minutes or so we can see a monster sw over the light.

It works pretty well. The 2nd nite I had it hooked up there were several large bluegills swimming around and many small baitfish. I can "almost" always catch a mess anytime day or nite. Crappy at nite and bluegills in the daytime.

It has what appears to be 2 florescent bulbs about 40w output.
