I have been out fishing twice this year :cry4: Would love to go more but health won't cooperate. I have a condition called Meniers Disease which affects my balance and hearing. When the pressure in my head builds up too great it throws me in to bad vertigo attacks which in turn causes severe migraines. Not a hole lot of fun! I have ringing in my ears 24/7 365 and just about every day I have mild to moderate headaches. It's a good thing I don't own a boat and do all my fishing from shore.(I can see it now, I'm out on the boat and have one of my attacks, I loose my balance and BINGO! I am up close and personal with the fish :fish1: ) Oh well, thank the Lord for BASSRESOURCE.COM or I would go completely out of my mind. Any way, I was wondering what some of the things are that keep some of you guys from getting out more often?

Your post is a great example of a lesson that I tried to teach my children many years ago. At that time, our youngest daughter was making many trips to the Shriner's Hospital in Chicago as they tried to correct a birth defect that gave her one leg shorter than the other. The lesson I tried to teach them, and that our daughter learned first hand was: "There's always someone worse off than you." Even though she didn't enjoy all of those trips, it only took living in the same room with someone wearing a halo from a broken neck or being fixed with a prostetic limb to put life into perspective.

I guess that in the big picture that I'll consider myself lucky. The last few years has seen a tremendous drop in my fishing. From the loss of my lifelong friend and tournament buddy a few years ago, to a mother suffering from dementia for the last several years, or to just leaving the boat in the garage to help our kids with home improvement projects this year. Putting my love for fishing aside has always been driven by a love that runs much deeper.

Regardless of the challenges any of us face, I know there's someone who would gladly take the easy route we've been given.

The hot weather. Been busy working. Have been fun fishing once, fished 5 tourneys without prefishing, and 1 toc trip in March. My son and I were supposed to go out yesterday but he cancelled, so I washed the car and worked around the house. Such is life.

Working is taking up all my free time right now. That and my wife and I trying to have another child. Some things can be better than fishing. ;)

Go to work so i can fund my passion, can't do those things because I'm working. Funny ain't it?

I truly feel for you and hope you get more time on the water.

I've been afflicted with migraines more years than I can remember. What works for me is Sumatriptan, but it has to be a true migraine. Comes in pill or shot. I like the shot because with a migraine you're usually pukin your guts out which make a pill worthless. Takes less than 10 minutes and the headache is gone.

I was going to post a reply but decided not too. Life is going extremely good right now and I don't want to jinx anything.

Daddyodo, Baby steps. You have to build up your tolerance and push yourself to expand your comfort/control level.

Any way, I was wondering what some of the things are that keep some of you guys from getting out more often?

Too much to list.

What"s Keeping You From Doing What You Love?

My 4yr old. He won't stay in his own bed, :respect-059:

1. Time

2. Wife

3. Money

Otherwise, I can do what I want.

Kinda like Sam's, who is obviously much richer....moneywise...than I

1. MONEY

2. Time

3. Wife & Kids

Have started doing some night fishing so I am not away from the family as much. usually take a nap from 2-4 am or so, and then go home about 7-8. That gets me thru till bedtime that next evening. Plus, fishing at 1 am there is much less boat/fishing traffic.

haha same here I'm home on leave as many of you know and I get my son misses me but d**n it sleep in your own bed its been a LONG time lol.

I get to fish alot almost everyday so nothing really keeps me from that not counting this deployment. I'd like to get back into playing tournament paintball and building hot rods again but money definitely stopping me there.

I get migraines also, terrible things to get. I get the auora migraines that cause temporary partial blindness, followed by the usual pain, nausea, and vomiting. I take preventive medication for mine but still get them occasionally and when I do there is nothing but sleep that makes them go away for me. My grandpa gets cluster migraines where he gets one and goes to sleep and when he wakes up it just starts all over again. This cycle repeats itself over and over until whatever is causing them finally stops.

As far as what's preventing me from doing what I want? money mainly. I'd say time and work but if I had money I wouldn't have to worry about the other two. I can't really complain, I have a good wife and I get to fish a couple times a week, my boats paid off, and we're about to buy our first house.

I have many of the aches, pains and maladies of a 67 year, I go fishing everyday anyway, some days I feel good other days I don't. I'm not about to miss anything, don't know how much longer I'm going to be around, if I don't do something, it's only due to a lack of interest.

Started having migraines this year, they really suck.......

Financial and mechanical issues made me decide early in the year to just leave the boat in the barn; one less thing to worry about......

.....actually admitting that the depression and anxiety is a problem...still workin' on that one :dazed-7:

Have not had the interest in much of anything lately, just going day by day. But like was said, there is always someone worse off......Good luck to all of you here at BR :laugh5:

In terms of time on the water, this year has been the worst I can remember. I've scarcely fished enough to justify buying the license.

Work and weather are to blame. I've worked a lot more than normal this summer, and when I've had a day off, it's been too danged hot for me to be interested.

I've had a kayak for two months and have had it on the water less than eight hours. That's going to change shortly. My fall teaching schedule is going to give me two afternoons off each week. Cooler weather has to be coming, so I'm going to get in some yak time.

Mostly health issues. An industrial accident several years ago resulting in back/neck/head injuries, along with arthritis, has left me with enough balance and mobility problems that I don't trust myself in a boat anymore. Plus, about 2 hours of fishing is about all I can do at one time. But I still go fishing almost as often as I want, and I get to play my guitars as much as I want, so I'm can't complain much.

Boy do I know the feeling. Constanly being in pain is no fun and very discouraging. I go through bouts of being depressed also. I try to keep a positive attitude but, again, when you are in constant pain and do not know when or if it will end it is hard. I go through each day wondering "is this the day I am going to have a real bad attacK, and if so what do i do if it happens. I am constantly looking at my surroundings, especially driving trying to figure out the best place to be if the attack comes :dazed-7: I also worry that if I miss too much work i'm not going to keep my job very long. I have been at the job less than a year and already missed 5 days. OUCH!! CAN"T LIVE LIFE LIKE THAT!!

KEEP YOUR CHIN UP MY FRIEND!!

I do alot of this and it seems to help

Hey royal0014 I almost forgot. The doctors at Hopkins determined my Migraines were a direct result of food allergies. I stay away from many different types of foods and it really helps. No canned soups, no hot dogs, bananas, caffeine, and chocolate are just a few. Might be something to look into :Idontknow:

Easy for you to say. You're not the one who has to live nine months with the results of your "thing that can be better than fishing."

As a man, I will admit that I agree with you. As much as I enjoy fishing, it only gets the silver medal, in the Olympics of life.

I love my wife, but even she will admit those pregnancy hormones took a toll on us both lol

My wife made the "joke" of saying if she got pregnant while I was home on leave that I have 4 months left and I would miss the worst part of the pregnancy with all the mood swings from the pregnancy hormones.
