I'm about to pull the trigger on a Core. I was wondering if there was another reel that was comparable that I should look at.

I have a Curado 50E that I use for plastics, but was wanting to get another setup for plastics. I've been saving my money and ready to pull the trigger. What should I do?

The curado 50 is an amazing reel. i wouldnt trade the ones i have for much. With that said, once you use your core50 you won't want to touch that curado 50. If you want to stay with shimano, then the core is the way to go unless you want to go JDM but the differences are very minimal. Diawa steez mg is on sale and has a strong if not stronger following than the core depending on what board you ask. It depends on you budget and the weight you want to throw but the diawa px type-r would be an amazing reel to own for trigs.

If you mean, same weight as the 100Mg, smoothness, more line capacity, more drag, same size and casting ease, you should check out the Lew's Tournament Pro, I think it is a Core in sheep's clothing, at less than 1/2 the cost $150.00 street price, don't take my word for it, but check one out before you spend the money on a Core, you may just agree since everyone that owne's them seems to agree!

I have the 50mg7, it's a great reel.

Lew's Tournament Pro has been getting a lot of promps from some knowledgeable

guys who have been long time Shimano fans. The comparisons however have been

against the Curado or sometimes, the new Chronarch. I have not fished a LTP, but

would like to. That said, I am really surprised that this reel is now being compared to

the Core.

Daiwa Steez is on sale at TW for $399...only $30 more then a core 50 NIB. Best $30 extra dollars you could spend If your looking at NIB anyways.

We're all different. I own two Core 50's and two Steez's, 100ha and 103ha. Even if they were the same price, I'd buy the Core's. Smoother and much less fussy reels. Can be easily adjusted for changing conditions and don't have the built in "wild child" thing that the Steez's do. And my Steez's have been tuned, which made them better, but still somewhat unpredictable. In perfect conditions, the Steez's can probably cast a bit further in stock form than a Core. But I don't often fish in windless conditions. And if I do, it's usually not a good day. Fish feed better when the wind is up a little, it seems.

I also have a Curado 50E with orange seal bearings. My Core's and Steez's have upgraded bearings, too. I don't think the Curado gives up much, if anything, to the Core. Except an ounce or so of weight, of course. Both great reels.

I read about the wild child thing a fair amount on the forums. I guess that if all you fish is Daiwa, it might not be as big an issue. These are the only Daiwa baitcasters I own, so maybe they're all that way. I fish a mix of Daiwa, Shimano and Abu.

The majority of my reels are Daiwa except my 3 cores

But if you would like to save some money, a curado 50e, tuned and new bearings from DVT would be the way to go. I don't regret my core, but have bought at least 3 50e's since!

Good point...I had DVT supertune my Curados (50 & 100). The performance is very close to that of the Cores.

I have a "supertuned" lew's TP and a "Supertuned" Core50 I like the 50 for throwing anything light and it's hands down my favorite reel you will love it!

With that said, once you use your core50 you won't want to touch that curado 50.

Had a Core and sold it; currently still have 3 51's. The Core is a work of art, that's for sure; gorgeous to look at and hold.

Although I've not used a Steez, I'd say it would be the closest competitor/superior to the Core. I haven't tried a TP yet, but if a tuned 51 can be close to a Core, it wouldn't surprise me if a TP is also close (albeit a different palm-print).

I am surprised to hear that, I've been drooling all over them. Seems everytime I have enough in the kitty something comes up. I enjoy my 50e for light plastics, And I assumed the core would be just that much better.

It's not uncommon; I know of a few others including one die-hard posse member. It's not a negative on the Core at all, though, so don't read it that way.

Gotha, I'll be sure to do a good touchy feely before the purchase. Looks have me sold, But its a lot of cash for something a supertuned 50e can rival. Maybe I'll just give my 50e a paint job?
