Try fishing in the canals around Dade county for peacock. Use minnow imitation lures(flukes, jerkbaits, crankbaits, ect). Fish it fast! Also try pond hopping for largemouth bass. Look on youtube.

I am not familiar with the area, but usually local bait shops can provide good information. Check area bait shops and see what they have for bait fish around and find ways to imitate those. Also I have never fished a place where soft places won't catch.

I live in the Miami area. Where are you more or less and I can direct you to some areas.

Miami/ Miami Dade county has tons of areas. There are urban canals all over that hold good fish.

awesome guys, thanks a lot for all the replies. I can tell everyone is very helpful.

Im in west miami on 8 street and around 67th ave. I asked the guy at bass pro shops today by dolphin mall he said there is a canal right behind bass pro

that holds peacock and other species of fish too so I'm gonna try that out some time this week but i'd like some other spots that are a little closer to home

gas is too expensive lol

thanks again!!!!

Try tropical park off of Bird rd and Palmetto. The lake in that park is known to hold bass in the 7lbs + range. FWC did some electro-shocking in there sometime ago to confirm those weights.

Blue lagoon will be challenging without a boat. However you can work the same canal system on tamiami trail and there is miles of bank there. Also heard that there is good peacock bass fishing around the canals around the " The Falls". I know I am throwing alot at you, but in your area there are numerous canal systems, you will not have a shortage of options.

Also which type of lure would you guys suggest for Miami canals, I have a little popper, rattling crank bait and senkos as well

rattle crank baits and poppers. Use something fast becuase peacocks uses their speed to hunt.

What you have plus a jerk bait and some horny toads, buzz the grass and pads for LMB. Be aware of the areas you fish. There is alot hydrilla and various grasses this time of year so it could render some of your baits with trebles useless.

All great info. I will add for the LMB the topwater frogs will tend to be better in low-light conditions(dawn/dusk) and senkos for the middle of the day. LMB will hit a topwater frog at noon but more apt to do so in lower light. And senkos are great all around, wacky rigged or t-rigged. Just make sure its a slow retrieve. Good Luck and Welcome!

Hey Kristo, welcome! We have a good contingent of South Florida anglers on this forum.

You are a little south of me, but there are some local parks a little north of you which have nice bass in them...CB Smith, Tree Top, Quietwaters, etc... Also, as mentioned before, check out Google Earth...I have found some out-of-the-way gems, just searching around a little bit.

I haven't had the boat out in awhile (no time... :dazed-7: ), but I am fortunate to have some pretty good bass ponds right behind my house. Baits that are working for me right now...spooks, worms, scroungers, traps. Senkos probably are killer right now, also.

Hello piscicidal,

Thank you glad to be on here it's been great so far, I've been trying out some of the suggestions and I finally caught one yesterday after a whole week of nothing off krome ave and sw 8th st....he was a tiny little guy but he kept my spirits up!

Senkos are not working for me at all I guess maybe if I try wacky rigged but nothing with those Senkos. I caught the little bass with a popper. I tried fishing the watermelon red Senko weightless and it wouldnt even sink I think it's my line test is too strong (my rod was given to me by a friend I think it's 25 lb test) could that be the problem?

I have fished Tropical Park using Jig Head with a Bruiser Bait Craw or Texas Rig a shad swim bait

Does anyone have any ideas how to fish Lily pads?

I like to use a hollow body frog working it slowly has been the key for me. The other lure I like to use is a gambler big-ez with a belly weighted hook with a screw lok in the nose. The screw lok allows the front of the bait to have more movement and action.
