Super User rockchalk06 Posted August 2, 2012 Super User Posted August 2, 2012 Ive been hearing all kinds of good stuff on the KVD line conditioner. Bought a bottle yesterday. Followed the directions from here and the You tube videos. I really cant tell a difference. Line is still a curved memory mess. My casts didn't seem to change at all. Really never had any problems with distance or backlashes in the first place. Am I missing something or? Btw. Line is 15 Seaguar fluoro. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted August 2, 2012 Super User Posted August 2, 2012 Might just be the line too. Try this, spray some copious amounts all over the spool the night before and let it soak. Just before you get ready to fish, spray some more on it. See if that helps, if not, get yourself some better line. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted August 2, 2012 Super User Posted August 2, 2012 I regularly use it on 6#, 12# and 15# CXX. It makes a huge difference. It is worth the cost to me... Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 2, 2012 Super User Posted August 2, 2012 I apply the KVD Line & Lure Conditioner whenever I spool new line. I think the stuff is amazing! Quote
BASSHUNTER1961 Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 What about Reel Magic? I use to use it years ago on my spinning gear with Mono and it worked. I haven't used it in years though, so things may have changed. How does the KVD compare to Reel Magic? Quote

I am with you on this, because i bought a bottle last year and started using it on all my setups. Honestly, I couldn't tell any difference. Quote

Jig Meister Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 To get the most out of KVD here is what seems to work best for me. I re-spool usually once a month, depends on the line/setup but FC gets used more than anything. I will tie the line on the spool, spool maybe 20 yards and soak the line with KVD, then spool 3/4 full then soak again, then complete the spool and soak again. Maybe 15 sprays total. I will let that sit for a few days, then sray a few before I use it. After about 10 casts everything is great, and I use the bottom barrel Vicious FC KVD makes my Stren Mono 8# silk! If you do not like it, I will give you my address Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Reel Magic is just silicone like WD40. The way it works is that it lubricates but actually slightly degrades the line hence softening it. KVD L&L is a coating that bonds to the line. KVD works better and is safer for the environment. Super User smalljaw67 Posted August 2, 2012 Super User Posted August 2, 2012 I love the KVD L&L conditioner also but remember it isn't a miracle in a bottle. I will tell you guys I fish with that tell me they don't see any difference use it as an alternative to respooling and I find they are trying to condition line that has been on the reel for over a year and is loaded with memory. When I spool my line I use a spooling station and I keep a rag near me that has the end of it soaked in KVD L&L and as the line is going on the reel it first goes through the rag held by my two fingers and then before I go out I give the reel spools a quick spritz, this keeps the memory from getting bad on mono and it seems to help with casting on my braid. L&L is a blend of polymers and will not harm the line or your reel. I think if you stick with it and try the suggestions that have been given, you'll find that it works very well. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 That reminds me, the other thing about spray lubes is they contain petroleum distillates to make them sprayable. These sprays actually dissolve grease so don't get them anywhere near the internals of a reel. Quote
cody161 Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I just got some last week and I could tell a big difference in it. There was less line memory and I could tell my casts were longer. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted August 2, 2012 Author Super User Posted August 2, 2012 My line is about 2 months old. When I say I cant tell a difference in casting is I am getting some serious casts as it is. Backlashes are minimal. I guess I will respool in a few months and give it another shot when the line is new. Thanks for the help Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted August 2, 2012 Super User Posted August 2, 2012 I apply the KVD Line & Lure Conditioner whenever I spool new line. I think the stuff is amazing! X2, and I reapply while fishing. KVD line conditioner works great. I'd recommend it to anyone who's not already using it. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted August 2, 2012 Super User Posted August 2, 2012 I use and have great luck with the KVD L&L, spray it on the night before, and again when I get to the lake, works like a charm. Quote
j.bruno Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I swear by it. I douse my spools the night before my trips. Baitcasting and spinning. Quote
Jig Meister Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I have mentioned this before, but does anyone else feel like KVD L&L is almost the same thing as Armor All? expect for the smell, it almost seems the same... 1 Quote
Diggy Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 It works. I accidentally got some in my hair, it also made that soft and manageable 3 Quote
